Bono shares positive news on health of legendary U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr

It felt strange for U2 fans to see the band perform without one of its founding members. For decades, U2 had been known as the group consisting of Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. However, Larry Mullen Jr. was facing health issues that made playing the drums very difficult.

So, I was super hyped for U2 at the Sphere in Vegas, and the show itself was amazing – they always kill it live. But it was definitely a bummer that Larry Mullen couldn’t be there. I heard he’s been dealing with some neck problems and had surgery, which is rough. You could tell the band really missed having him on stage with them, even though they still put on an incredible performance.

The good news is that Mullen is playing again and has been recording new music with the band. Excitingly, Brian Eno is producing some of the tracks! We don’t know how much new music they’ve created or when a new U2 album might be released, but things are moving forward.

Fans of U2 will be quite happy with Bono’s update on Larry Mullen Jr.

While accepting the Woody Guthrie Prize in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Bono shared an update on Larry Mullen Jr., saying the drummer is doing very well and playing some of his best work ever.

That’s high praise, considering Hugh Mullen is a remarkably skilled, yet often overlooked, rock drummer with a long and impressive career. While he doesn’t focus on flashy displays, he excels with incredible accuracy and timing. Tracks like “New Year’s Day” and “Trip Through Your Wires” truly rely on his distinctive drumming and wouldn’t sound the same without him.

It’s remarkable when a band forms in their twenties and continues to make consistently great music for over four decades. They’ve already released at least three truly exceptional albums, and there’s every indication they’ll keep creating brilliant work.

U2’s next album has the potential to be their best yet. The band has always had incredible musical synergy, and with drummer Larry Mullen Jr. now fully recovered and performing at his peak, according to Bono, fans can anticipate another exceptional record.
