Bond Girl Reveals: Pierce Brosnan Was Hairy, Stunt Double Smelly, and She Only Got £250

Lizzie Cundy has provided an insight into the less glamorous aspects of being a Bond girl, having starred in the 1995 film Goldeneye.

56-year-old ex-WAG and television personality shared an exclusive account of her challenging on-set experience, referring to it as a “living hell,” with TopMob.

In the initial James Bond film featuring Pierce Brosnan, Lizzie stood in for Famke Janssen during the memorable sauna scene where the villainess Xenia Onatopp attempted a lethal leg hold on Bond.

Lizzie shared that Pierce, aged 71, whom she saw in just a towel, was the hairiest person she had ever come across. She playfully expressed her worry about potentially picking up ‘clumps of hair’, or as she put it, ‘fur balls’.

‘He was a lovely bloke, so funny and we got on like a house on fire, but so hairy, like an otter’.

In a rather unexpected twist, I found myself stepping into the role just moments before the call, thanks to our striking physical resemblance with the Danish actress. However, my days were largely spent idling away in a petite trailer that bore an unmistakable aroma of fish.

Not only did things get worse, but when they were on set, Lizzie complained that Pierce’s stand-in had a foul odor as well. Unfortunately, she had to tolerate this unpleasant smell during rehearsals prior to Pierce’s arrival.

She chuckled, saying, “I had to work alongside a man with an unpleasant body odor, who wasn’t the most appealing company. It certainly wasn’t a glamorous or financially rewarding experience.

Contrary to the substantial funding of Bond films, it was uncovered by Lizzie that she was paid just £250 for her contributions to the movie, yet gratefully extended an invitation for the 1997 production of Tomorrow Never Dies.

Though it may seem appealing, the reality often involves a lot of idle time. Movies are not always as enchanting as they appear.

Previously, Lizzie shared an incident that occurred during her second collaboration with Pierce, which turned out to be quite awkward for her.

2021 saw her reminisce about an incident on the set of Tomorrow Never Dies, where she and a friend were found in his trailer, using his toothbrush, by him.

She shared that fortunately, he accepted it graciously and was quite endearing, displaying wit and a sparkle reminiscent of Ireland in his gaze.

Lizzie, with her acting background from the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, penned: ‘Fortunately, he handled it well and we all shared a laugh and went out for drinks!’

After fellow James Bond actress Rosamund Pike shared that she felt extremely embarrassed during her steamy scene alongside Pierce Brosnan in the 2002 film “Die Another Day,” at a time when she was just 22 years old and he was 48.

In a dramatic turn of events, the 46-year-old British actress experienced her initial on-screen intimate encounter as her character, the MI6 double agent, charmed James Bond within the grandeur of an Icelandic palace. Their amorous activities unfolded within a majestic bed designed in the shape of a swan during this passionate interlude.

Rosamund mentioned that she learned about items such as nipple covers and tape-applying techniques during their conversation on David Tennant’s podcast,” or simply, “On David Tennant’s podcast, Rosamund discussed the use of nipple covers and taping.

In a moment, we break apart, and upon seeing the body tape and nipple covers covered in hair, I’m struck with the realization, “I’m removing Pierce’s chest hair with each hug!” I felt so embarrassed! I couldn’t help but think, “Oh my goodness, he’s so brave, and here I am ripping out his chest hair with every embrace.

The initial embarrassing situation, which Pike initially believed would be quite severe, turned out to be less so when he discovered that it wasn’t him, but rather the sham fur on the rugs resembling a swan bed. In reality, I thought I was grooming a man’s chest!

In a delightful turn of phrase, the Emmy-winning actress described working on Die Another Day as a “wonderfully enchanting journey.” Her initial scene was shared with Dame Judi Dench, she engaged in an exciting sword fight with Halle Berry, and even had a playful exchange with Madonna during their fencing scene together.
