In simpler terms, Mike Flanagan’s remake of “The Exorcist” has been given an unfavorable new schedule, as the director has announced that the movie’s premiere is being postponed.
It became public knowledge last year that Flanagan, who is renowned for his work on the anthology series The Haunting and Midnight Mass, was set to spearhead a fresh, revolutionary approach to the classic horror saga.
Initially planned for a release on March 13, 2026, there hasn’t been much information about Flanagan’s new movie. However, the director himself has announced through Tumblr that the original release date won’t be happening as scheduled.
Flanagan stated that the production for “The Exorcist” hasn’t begun yet, and they need to complete “Carrie” first before moving on. He mentioned that there’s no chance of its release in March, so there’s no need for concern.
After the significant flop of David Gordon Green’s 2023 movie “The Exorcist: Believer”, which was intended to be the opening chapter in a three-part sequel series based on the original 1973 film, this development occurred.
Originally planned for release this year, the second installment of the trilogy titled “Deceiver 2” had to be abandoned when Green decided to exit the project.
It was subsequently established that Flanagan had been working on an entirely fresh and nerve-wracking tale, separate from Believer, where he would be both the author, director, and producer of this new project.
Flanagan expressed that “The Exorcist” played a significant role in inspiring his career as a filmmaker, and he feels privileged to have the opportunity to create something innovative, daring, and spine-tingling within its world, according to his statement.

Flanagan is recognized for transforming Stephen King’s works into films, such as “Doctor Sleep” and “Carrie,” which were originally novels by the author. Stepping out of the horror genre, Flanagan has also adapted King’s 2020 novella titled “The Life of Chuck,” set to be released in the UK on August 22.
