Bobby Lashley & MVP would have a major impact in any promotion

As a long-time wrestling enthusiast who has witnessed the industry’s ebb and flow for decades, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment at the recent departure of MVP and Bobby Lashley from WWE. These two titans of the squared circle have given us countless memorable moments that will forever be etched in the annals of wrestling history.

As a die-hard fan, I’ve been eagerly following the latest updates on MVP and Bobby Lashley. The grapevine has been buzzing about their future moves within the wrestling world. Finally, on Friday, an unexpected twist unfolded – they were shifted to the Alumni section of the site. Lashley and MVP are veterans in this sport, and seeing them move on at a time when I crave more representation for Black performers feels like a blow.

There’s been a good deal of discussion surrounding Triple H’s booking strategies, particularly concerning Black men in the main roster. This year’s SummerSlam, one of the key annual PLEs, lacked any Black men in its matches. The only Black individual on the seven-match program was Nia Jax. Our investigation reveals that Black performers comprise 15% of the in-ring talent on Monday Night Raw and 20% on WWE SmackDown. Yet, this representation doesn’t seem to align with how frequently these stars are losing.

That brings the conversation back to Bobby Lashley and MVP. These are two individuals who have Hall of Fame-worthy credentials in their back pocket. Yet, WWE could not find anything worthwhile for them to do in the last few years. As the foundation of The Hurt Business, they were one of the focal points during WWE’s time struggling through the COVID-19 pandemic. Along with Shelton Benjamin (who is also no longer with WWE), and Cedric Alexander, they were one of the best acts in the company. That act was unceremoniously disbanded and wide agreement is that they weren’t utilized in the best way.

Since both MVP and Lashley have left WWE, fans are wondering where they might go next. A possibility that has been discussed is joining All Elite Wrestling (AEW). However, this doesn’t seem like an obvious choice due to AEW’s current roster issues. With an already stacked lineup of top wrestling stars, it’s questionable where MVP, Lashley, and Benjamin would fit in, considering the struggle to give everyone adequate screen time.

As a long-time fan of both TNA (now Impact Wrestling) and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), I’ve seen my fair share of ups and downs for each promotion. Recently, TNA has been gaining traction with its partnership with WWE, which has resulted in increased engagement from fans and fresh new content. On the other hand, NJPW could use a boost of excitement to keep things interesting for viewers. In my opinion, bringing in a trio consisting of Mercedes Mone, Lashley, and MVP would be an excellent move for NJPW.

There’s been discussion about whether it was wise for WWE to part ways with Lashley and MVP. As this argument continues, fans will keep an eye on their future moves. Here’s to wishing them, along with Shelton Benjamin, a successful run in whatever new platforms they choose.
