Bob Mortimer’s Heartbreaking Admission About Death After Triple Bypass Surgery
Bob Mortimer has made a heartbreaking admission about death after his triple heart bypass.
As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t help but share a health update about my beloved “The Last One Laughing” star. In 2015, he bravely underwent bypass surgery after it was discovered that a staggering 95% of his arteries were blocked. During the operation, his heart miraculously stopped beating for an astonishing 32 minutes! This just goes to show the resilience and strength this incredible individual possesses.
Over the last summer, a part of his latest season of Gone Fishing had him temporarily unable to walk due to a case of shingles.
Due to a six-month battle with the virus, Bob’s muscles weakened significantly, causing him to require a wheelchair for transportation to multiple destinations.
In the episode of Kathy Burke’s “Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake” podcast, he shared that he had overcome his fear of death.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I find myself expressing that the thought of my own demise doesn’t provoke fear within me. Instead, it stirs an overwhelming sense of frustration and sorrow to ponder upon the idea that I may never witness the conclusions of the countless stories I’ve lived and loved.

Bob mentioned, ‘The tales of my kids and wife, as well as the latest sports news – all these stories might end while you’re not looking.’
In his own words, he shared that he found a sense of hope, describing it as emerging from a dark passage towards a bright light. He expressed that this moment was unlike any other happiness he had ever known.
It was incredibly unusual; the next thing I knew, I found myself well after a day had passed. Upon reflection, I felt elated because my fears about death seemed to vanish altogether.
Bob secretly married his wife Lisa Matthews just half an hour before undergoing heart surgery.
On the day of his scheduled surgery, the comic decided to marry his long-time companion, who had been advised that his health was extremely critical.
In a press conference held the next year, he recounted, “A week ago Thursday, I learned I required heart surgery. So, on the following day, I wrote my will.
‘Found out I couldn’t get married to Lisa because you have to give 21 days notice.
Although my consultant stated that I was extremely unwell, the registrar in London, despite me not residing there, granted me permission to get married on a Monday.

Bob added, “‘I tied the knot at half past 9 on Monday, followed by a hospital visit for the procedure at 10.’
The ceremony was very intimate, with just Bob, Lisa and their two sons in attendance.
In December, Bob shared his deep concern that he might not be able to run anymore, following what he considered the most challenging year for his health.
The humorist, dealing with rheumatoid arthritis, was informed by physicians that a bout with shingles had resulted in a 20% loss of muscle strength.
He had a particularly difficult year for his health, and to put it bluntly, it was even harder than the time he experienced issues with his heart, as he shared during his previous appearance on the show.
Currently, the consultant suggests that I might achieve about 80% muscle recovery in my leg. She added that it’s up to me to interpret what this means for my personal situation.
‘The muscles I’ve lost, I’ve lost… But other ones can compensate for it, you know what I mean?
Though I can build up other muscles, I fear deeply that I may not regain my ability to run again. You recall, don’t you, how much I enjoyed running, Paul.
As a die-hard fan, I’ve always admired Bob for his unwavering transparency regarding his health. He’s bravely shared his journey after a triple heart bypass surgery and his battles with arthritis, which only adds to my respect for him.
In December 2020, Bob openly expressed his concern that the COVID-19 pandemic might reduce his lifespan by about two years.

Admitting that he abandoned his health-conscious habits during the lockdown, he stated: “I haven’t exercised at all, I’ve overindulged in food and alcohol. I believe lockdown might have shaved off around two years from my life.
The comedian previously spoke about his struggles with rheumatoid arthritis.
In my late twenties, I suddenly developed rheumatoid arthritis – it was almost like a sudden blow or shock to me.
For over a decade, I’ve been free from this issue, but unfortunately, it resurfaced 10 days ago. This turn of events has left me quite concerned about its potential resolution. Granted, I may carry some extra weight, but the truth is, I’m currently on steroid treatment.
“When I reached about 60, I found myself wanting to wind down and preferring things to stay as they were. It’s only at that age that one truly realizes the multitude of possibilities that could have been pursued.”
