Bob Mortimer Trapped by Detergent Bottle and Reveals He No Longer Fears Death After Heart Surgery
On Wednesday, comedian Bob Mortimer skillfully utilized his unique style of humor when marketing his forthcoming book.
Known predominantly for his television collaborations with comedy partner Vic Reeves, this stand-up artist is now busy getting ready for the publication of his second book, The Hotel Avocado, in a softcover edition, which is set to hit the shelves on May 22nd.
On Wednesday evening, during the recording of another typical humorous Instagram post, he previewed the upcoming release to elicit laughter.
At home, Mortimer (age 65), clutching a fresh copy of his latest book, staged an emergency situation by feigning that a heavy detergent container had pinned down his foot.
Pointing his phone to show a foot encased in a slipper, he informed his audience: “I intended to step outside for some details, but unfortunately, I’m stuck under a large container of screenwash.

I called the emergency responders and requested firefighters to handle the situation, but they advised sending the coast guard instead because it involves liquid. So, I’ll make my announcement now.
Instead, Mortimer motivates his supporters to reserve a copy of his upcoming novel before its paperback release in May, a sequel to his 2022 debut, The Satsuma Complex.
The book was originally published in hardcover last year.
In the year 2015, the host of “The Last One Laughing” had a bypass operation when it was found that nearly all his arteries (a staggering 95%) were clogged. During this procedure, his heart was momentarily stopped for approximately 32 minutes.
Over the scorching summer, I found myself crippled from mid-stride, struck down by shingles during the latest season of my beloved series, Gone Fishing.
After enduring a six-month battle with the virus, Mortimer experienced muscle atrophy and needed to use a wheelchair for transportation to various destinations.
In a conversation with Kathy Burke’s Where There’s A Will, There’s A Wake podcast, he shared that his fear of death had subsided.
The television host expressed: ‘I’m not afraid of death; instead, I feel deeply disappointed and saddened at the thought that I won’t be around to find out how tales conclude.’

He mentioned: “The tale of my kids, my spouse’s too. The game of soccer. All the yarns unfolding around the globe that you might not get to witness the conclusion of.
I found a glimmer of hope, as I journeyed toward it, I felt an unprecedented sense of joy and happiness.
What transpired was quite remarkable; the next thing I knew, I had woken up a day afterward feeling fine. It struck me then, ‘This is wonderful! I no longer have that dread of death or anything else.’
Mortimer secretly married his wife Lisa Matthews just half an hour before undergoing heart surgery.
On the day of his surgery, the comic planned to marry his longtime companion, having been informed that his health was extremely critical.
At a subsequent press conference, he reminisced: ‘The following Friday, after learning I required heart surgery on Thursday, I drafted my will.’
‘Found out I couldn’t get married to Lisa because you have to give 21 days notice.
However, my consultant declared that I was extremely unwell, which led the registrar in London (a place where I do not reside) to grant me special permission to get married on a Monday.
