Blurry House of the Dragon Set Video Suggests Trans Actor Is Playing Daeron Targaryen

A fuzzy video clip from the set of “House of the Dragon” seems to indicate that trans actor Charlie Gordon could be portraying Daeron Targaryen in Season 3. Filmed in Surrey, England, this leaked footage appears to depict the actor dressed for the role, alongside James Norton and Matt Smith. This on-set sighting has stirred excitement among fans as it suggests that the long-awaited character of Daeron might be joining the series.

Charlie Gordon possibly cast as Daeron Targaryen in House of the Dragon Season 3

The idea started to spread more widely following the post by fan account Westerosies on July 17, which stated that “Charlie Gordon, as Prince Daeron Targaryen, is the first trans man to portray a major character in HBO’s ‘GAME OF THRONES’ universe.

17-year-old British actor Charlie Gordon, who has previously been seen in Netflix’s Matilda: The Musical and the live stage production of School of Rock, is a multi-talented individual with training in acting, singing, and playing instruments. His Backstage profile confirms this. In 2023, he joyously announced on Instagram that his legal name has been officially changed to Charlie Eliot Gordon following an update to his passport.

If it’s true, Gordon will take on the role of Daeron Targaryen, the youngest son of King Viserys I and Queen Alicent Hightower, who is famously known as “Daeron the Daring.” This character, who rides the dragon Tessarion, sides with the Greens during the civil war known as the Dance of the Dragons. Although he was only mentioned by name in Seasons 1 and 2, Daeron is expected to have a substantial impact in Season 3.

Feedback on the characters has generally been very favorable. One viewer remarked, “He and Aemond seem biologically related, excellent choice for casting,” while another said, “The depiction of Daeron is youthful and authentic, staying true to the source.

At the moment, it hasn’t been formally announced by HBO that Charlie Gordon will be cast in Season 3, but several set leaks, tweets, and credited episode listings suggest his appearance in Episode 4 of Season 3.
