Blumhouse is still a major force in horror, consistently delivering scary movies to theaters.
Blumhouse Productions has seen increasing success with its horror films in recent years, and that trend continues. Alongside developing new movies, one of their recent hits is now reaching even more viewers.
The movie Night Swim, released in cinemas on January 5th, 2024, is now gaining popularity on streaming services. It’s become a hit on Netflix around the world, currently ranking as the #2 movie in the Dominican Republic.
Bryce McGuire’s new film is gaining popularity on Netflix, currently ranking at #3 in Colombia, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. It’s also doing well in other countries, holding the #4 spot in Jamaica, Peru, El Salvador, the Bahamas, and Guatemala.
The horror film Night Swim is performing well on Netflix across Latin America. It’s currently a top 5 hit in Bolivia, Ecuador, Uruguay, and Venezuela, and ranks among the top 10 in Argentina, Panama, Paraguay, Costa Rica, Chile, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The movie Night Swim received quite different reactions from critics and audiences. Currently, it has a 19% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 42% score on the Popcornmeter.
Despite being released for rental on demand in the US, the 2024 horror film Night Swim proved to be a financial win for Blumhouse. With a production budget of around $15 million, the movie earned $54.7 million worldwide. Of that amount, $32.4 million came from US audiences, and $22.2 million came from international audiences.
As much as I loved Night Swim, there aren’t any confirmed plans for a sequel at the moment. But you never know with these things! Blumhouse is super busy with a ton of other horror movies right now, so I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for Night Swim 2 anytime soon, though I’m definitely hoping it happens eventually.
In a review for ScreenRant, Mae Abdulbaki gave the PG-13 movie Night Swim a score of 5 out of 10. She noted that while the film uses horror to explore the characters’ anxieties, it lacks originality. However, Abdulbaki also praised the movie’s strong script and the cast’s believable performances, stating that the emotions and dialogue felt genuine throughout.
Wyatt Russell leads the cast as Ray Waller, supported by Kerry Condon as Eve Waller, Gavin Warren as Elliot Waller, Amélie Hoeferle as Izzy Waller, Nancy Lenehan as Kay, and Jodi Long as Lucy Summers. Ayazhan Dalabayeva plays Rebecca Summers, with Rahnuma Panthaky as Dr. Sridhar, Eddie Martinez as Coach E, Elijah J. Roberts as Ronin, and Ellie Araiza as Angel rounding out the ensemble.
Catch Night Swim on Netflix internationally and through VOD rental in the United States.
