Bluey movie release date REVEALED as animated series prepares to hit cinemas for the first time

It’s been announced that the Bluey movie, which is soon to be released, will hit theaters on a specified date. This marks the debut of the animated series’ first full-length feature film.

Since its debut on television in 2018, this Australian animated series has swiftly gained massive appeal among children and adults alike, winning multiple accolades throughout its journey.

As a devoted enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! On a recent announcement by BBC Studios and Walt Disney Studios, it’s been revealed that our eagerly anticipated movie will grace the big screen on August 6, 2027. Can’t wait to see it!

In collaboration with Ludo Studio, the movie showcases the recurring vocal performances of Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack, who reprise their roles as Chilli (Mum) and Bandit (Dad), respectively.

The film introduces on the large screen for the first time the exciting journey of an endearing Blue Heeler pup and her beloved kin.

The award-winning Emmy and BAFTA series will be vividly reimagined in a way that has never been seen before, an experience that promises to thrill its admirers.

The movie, penned and helmed by Bluey’s creator Joe Brumm, and jointly produced by Ludo Studio and BBC Studios, is a CG-animated production. Amber Naismith (notable for Happy Feet and The LEGO Movie) serves as the producer, while Richard Jeffery, who worked on Bluey seasons 1-3, shares co-directing duties with Brumm.

The oversight for the film at Disney will be handled by David Greenbaum, who is the president of both Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios, along with his team.

Joe, the creator of Bluey, showcased his enthusiasm for the upcoming movie. He revealed, “Working on a longer format with ‘The Sign’ in Series 3 was quite enjoyable for me, so expanding that experience into a full-length feature film seems like a logical progression.

I’ve long held the belief that Bluey should grace our screens with a grand cinematic adventure. Ideally, it would serve as a shared, immersive experience for everyone in the family to savor.

I’m thrilled to carry on collaborating with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell, the BBC Studios team, as well as Dana Walden and Alan Bergman from Disney, in our joint effort to convert a fresh Bluey tale into a cinematic experience.

Over the course of its launch, Bluey has gained worldwide acclaim, appreciated for its tender storytelling, mildly amusing humor, and distinctive Australian personality.

Bluey’s animated series is currently aired in over sixty nations worldwide. In Australia, you can catch all three seasons of this Emmy-winning show on ABC iview. Meanwhile, American viewers can enjoy it via Disney+, while UK residents have select episodes available on BBC iPlayer.

For over two years, an animated show popular among kids has consistently ranked within the top ten most-streamed television series in the United States.

This week, it was disclosed that BBC is planning to expand Bluey into a comprehensive lifestyle brand, which represents another significant commercial expansion for this popular animated series.

In the year 2024, Bluey significantly contributed to an impressive $4 billion in commercial earnings for BBC Studios, primarily through international licensing agreements, merchandise partnerships, and themed events worldwide.

The incredible sum collected is roughly equivalent to four years’ worth of funding for the ABC, a national broadcasting organization that receives its budget from both the federal government and Australian taxpayers.

Among the initial group that jointly commissioned the debut of Bluey in 2018 was the ABC. However, despite their involvement, they were unable to negotiate any substantial licensing agreements for merchandise.

2024 saw the unveiling of Bluey’s World, a grand Bluey-themed destination, in Brisbane. This year, it has been recognized as one of Time Magazine’s top picks for ‘World’s Best Places’ in 2025.
