As a grandmother who has seen the rise and fall of countless television shows, I must say that Bluey has truly captured my heart. It’s not often that a show comes along that appeals to both children and adults, but Bluey manages to do just that.

The children’s cartoon show, Bluey, will make its debut on the big screen following the announcement of its premiere feature film.

Initially aired in 2018, this popular Australian animated series quickly garnered widespread appeal among children and their parents. The program has collected an impressive number of awards as it continues its successful journey.

Previously, there were rumors suggesting the TV show might conclude, however, the producers have refuted these claims. Still, no updates about a potential fourth season have been announced.

However, delightfully for enthusiasts, it appears that the heartwarming escapades of the charming Blue Heeler pup, Bluey, will persist, with a big-screen debut scheduled for 2027.

BBC Studios, the commercial division of the BBC, is teaming up with Disney to produce a full-length movie.

Once the movie is released in cinemas, viewers can also stream it online via Disney+, along with ABC iview and ABC Kids (for Australian audiences).

Joe Brumm, the creator of Bluey, is thrilled about the upcoming movie. He mentioned, “Working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3 was an enjoyable experience for me. Expanding that to a full-length feature film feels like a logical progression.

I’ve long felt that Bluey should have a film adaptation, not just any movie, but a theatrical one. I envision it as an immersive experience for everyone in the family to share and cherish. I’m thrilled to collaborate once more with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell, and BBC Studios, alongside Dana Walden, Alan Bergman, and Disney, to bring this fresh Bluey tale to life on the big screen.

In this movie, Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack lend their voices to play Bluey’s parents, Chilli and Bandit Heeler. Furthermore, the film includes original music composed by Joff Bush.

In the production of the upcoming computer-generated (CG) animated movie, the esteemed animation producer Amber Naismith is set to take charge. Meanwhile, Richard Jeffery will make his comeback as a co-director for the project.

A lively discussion arose on a Bluey fan page dedicated to adults, centered around the question of whether it’s feasible to move beyond the charm of this popular kids’ show.

As an utterly devoted fan of Bluey, I ignited a stir when I shared a tale from my own experiences on the Adult Bluey Fans Facebook group, recounting a fascinating public encounter I had recently witnessed.

As I wandered through the store, a snippet of conversation caught my ear – a parent was informing their child that it was time for them to outgrow their Bluey attire as they had grown too refined. This is what sparked an interesting reflection in me about when children might grow past this beloved animated series.

She then admitted she had intervened in the private interaction between mother and child.

As I browsed through the winter clothing options for my little one, I couldn’t help but catch a glimpse of the mother nearby. We struck up a conversation, bonding over our shared love for Bluey – a delightful show that caters to viewers of all ages!

She strongly feels that Bluey is an exceptional program suitable for all ages, and parents ought to let their kids decide when they’ve outgrown the show or any other fascination, as she put it.

This program isn’t merely for kids; it serves as a guide for parents too, and I remain firm in that opinion.

A significant number of viewers shared the sentiment expressed by the original post, noting that although Bluey is marketed as a children’s program, it boasts a substantial following among adults.

A fan, aged 31, shared that they and their partner, who are both 32 years old, enjoy the animated series ‘Bluey’ without children. They expressed their fondness for the show, stating that it appeals to all ages.

‘As a full grown adult I won’t ever grow out of bluey,’ said another.

Another added: ‘I’m a 60 year old Nana and I love wearing Bluey shirts.’

A viewer asserted that it’s not because someone matures too much for Bluey, but rather, they mature too much due to the lessons and experiences provided by Bluey.

On the other hand, a fan suggested that the initial poster might have been unaware of the entire background of the conversation.

Children sometimes tease others for preferring activities deemed immature by their peers, which can be a form of peer pressure. It appears the mother was attempting to shield her child from such bullying incidents.

One fan agreed: ‘I work in a secondary school so I’ve seen kids get picked on for their interests.’

Another person added, “I believe she didn’t intend any significance by it; she simply doesn’t engage with her children on certain topics like some other parents might.

It was suggested that the mother could have merely been trying to distract the child from asking for more toys, knowing full well that he no longer plays with such items. After all, nobody can really be sure about her intentions.

Following Bluey’s poignant final episode, it garnered tremendous success on ABC Kids earlier in the year.

In April, the unique 28-minute episode of the Australian children’s cartoon series attracted approximately 2.28 million viewers.

In the end, over 787,000 people tuned into the program on ABC iview, which turned out to be the most popular entertainment show of the evening.

The third season’s final episode, named “The Sign”, indicated that the Heeler family was about to take a lengthy hiatus, preceding their break in the series.
