'Bluey' is bound for the big screen: BBC Studios, Disney partner for 2027 movie

As a movie lover with a rich background of observing and analyzing various cinematic masterpieces, I must say the upcoming collaboration between Walt Disney Co. and BBC Studios for the “Bluey” movie is an exciting development in the world of children’s entertainment. Having grown up watching animated series that captivated my imagination and touched my heart, it brings me immense joy to see such a beloved show as “Bluey” getting its own feature film.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the dynamic duo, Walt Disney Co. and BBC Studios, are collaborating to create an exciting Bluey-themed film for the little ones (and their grown-up fans)!

On Tuesday, it was announced that the hit animated series “Bluey,” produced by Joe Brumm, will make its big-screen debut as part of the first film in the “Bluey” franchise. This news comes from BBC Studios and Disney. The “Bluey” movie is scheduled for worldwide release in cinemas in 2027, with subsequent streaming availability on Disney+.

The animated series titled “Bluey” made its first appearance on Australian TV in the year 2018, followed by its U.S. premiere in September 2019. This show revolves around a unique family of dogs who are blue heelers: Bluey, Bingo, and their parents Chilli and Bandit. Initially intended for children, “Bluey” has grown to captivate audiences all over the world.

A strong collection of children’s content within a streaming service can serve as an effective means to keep existing subscribers engaged and increase their loyalty. Does it also have the potential to draw in new subscribers?

After its initial release, the “Bluey” brand has grown to encompass toys, books, a stage production called “Bluey’s Big Play”, an interactive event at Westfield Century City, and a touching, extended episode named “The Sign”. Some “Bluey” viewers had worried about the series’ future following the airing of “The Sign”, but producer Sam Moor reassured fans in April that it would continue.

She said to the BBC, “Don’t worry, Bluey isn’t finished yet. We’ve got plenty of exciting twists left up our sleeves.

Turns out a movie was in the cards all along.

Disney has kept quiet about the storyline for the upcoming “Bluey” film, only mentioning that it will carry on the escapades of Bluey and her kin. Voice artists Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack will reprise their roles, and the music will be composed by Joff Bush, who has worked on the series.

On Tuesday, Brumm stated that a feature film seemed like a “logical progression” or “inevitable next step” for the cherished series.

He expressed, “For a long time, I’ve felt that ‘Bluey’ should have its own feature film.” He added, “I aim to make it a shared, immersive experience for everyone in the family to relish.

In the upcoming “Bluey” film, Amber Naismith, who previously produced “Happy Feet,” will take on the role as producer. Richard Jeffery, director from the series, will jointly direct with her. Brumm, along with Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson of Ludo Studio, will serve as executive producers. BBC Studio’s Justine Flynn is also involved in production. Overseeing the film will be David Greenbaum, president of Disney live action and 20th Century Studios.
