Blue Bloods star Alex Duong dead at 42: Comedian succumbs to septic shock after rare cancer battle

Alex Duong, a comedian and actor who was recognized for his roles in shows like Blue Bloods, has died at the age of 42 after a fight with cancer.

Hilarie Steele, a family friend, told TMZ that Duong passed away early Saturday at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica after experiencing septic shock the previous night.

After suffering from intense headaches behind his eye, Duong received a diagnosis of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and fast-growing type of cancer, and began treatment.

When they diagnosed my dog, we immediately started really strong treatments, even an eye patch, but sadly, the cancer just kept getting worse. It was heartbreaking to watch him struggle despite everything we tried.

A GoFundMe campaign, set up by Hilarie, was created to help Duong’s journey to regain sight. 

Following his death, the campaign is now collecting donations to help his wife, Cristina, and their five-year-old daughter, Everest.

Duong was a well-known face in Los Angeles comedy. He performed stand-up and also worked as a doorman at the legendary Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip.

Duong, the youngest of six children with Vietnamese and Chinese heritage, was raised in Dallas, Texas, and later moved to Los Angeles to work in the entertainment industry.

He was a multi-talented performer who worked as a comedian, actor, and writer. He’s known for appearances on shows like Netflix’s Historical Roast, CBS’s Blue Bloods, and The OnlyFans Roast of Whitney Cummings.

He was also a member of SAG-AFTRA since 2009.

In early 2025, Duong received a diagnosis of alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare cancer that develops in soft tissues. Specifically, a cancerous growth appeared behind his eye.

It ultimately robbed him of vision in his left eye and left him with over $400,000 in medical debt. 

Even though doctors didn’t expect him to recover and the chemotherapy was very difficult, he kept performing and fighting for what he needed. This touched the comedy world and his fans all over the globe.
