As I read about Sharyn’s journey through the world of television news, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration for her resilience and determination. Her career spans over three decades, starting from her humble beginnings at Network 10 in Brisbane at just 24 years old, to becoming a regular newsreader on the Today Show, and eventually making it to the Seven Network where she spent 17 years.

On Monday evening, Sharyn Ghidella returned to broadcasting, launching her latest role with Channel 10 News.

7News parted ways with their Brisbane-based news anchor, aged 57, who had been with the company for 17 years, last month as part of a series of layoffs affecting media jobs.

She has now joined Network 10 to anchor the 5pm Queensland news bulletin.

Her transition to the network will also mark the return of the 10 News First show to its Brisbane studios, following many years of it being broadcast from Sydney.

Many fans expressed their joy over her initial broadcast, posting messages of encouragement across various social platforms.

‘The icon has arrived!! Amazing first bulletin Icon!’ wrote on person on Instagram.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’d like to express that there simply won’t be another quite like you, ever. A heartfelt congratulations to the exceptional Sharon! Your captivating charm and charisma have not only caught the eye of Channel 10’s camera but also the hearts of Australians. Welcome back home, dear friend!

One more chimed in: ‘Enjoyed watching you tonight. It’s where you’re meant to be.’

Sylvia Jeffreys added her voice to those sending congratulations, saying “Congrats, Sharyn! It’s wonderful to see even more local news options for the people of Queensland.”

I, a devoted admirer, am not alone in my appreciation for Liz Cantor. Many others have made the switch from Channel 7 to Channel 10 just to catch her broadcasts.

17-year veteran Liz recently made a surprising announcement that she’s stepping down from Seven, having decided to switch to their competitor, Network 10.

In other news, Sharyn’s shift to the network will mark the return of the 10 News First program to its Brisbane studios following several years of broadcasting it from Sydney.

Sharyn referred to her latest position at Network 10 as a “full-circle experience,” since she started her metro news journey with that same station way back in 1990.

‘I wonder if my security tag still works,’ she joked in a video announcing the news.

‘Returning to 10 News First feels like coming home,’ the veteran broadcaster added in a statement.

Back in the early ’90s, Network 10 provided me with my initial major opportunity. Now, returning here to provide local news services for the people of Queensland is more than thrilling.

At age 24, she was hired by Channel 10’s newsroom in Brisbane to work as a field reporter and update presenter.

Back in 1992, I made the fantastic leap to Sydney’s Nine Network, where I quickly found my groove as a daily anchor on their flagship program, The Today Show. Fast forward to 2007, and I couldn’t resist the allure of change, so I packed my bags for the Seven Network.

She’s been delivering the Brisbane edition of our network’s news since 2013, but she was let go from her position following 17 years of service last month.

Sharyn announced on Facebook that she had been let go from her job, sharing that she found out about it during a visit to the hair salon.

Following several nerve-wracking weeks marked by job reductions, she critically targeted the struggling network for giving greater emphasis to novelties such as astrology readings instead of retaining experienced professionals.

In her line of work in television spanning over three decades, she never had a day without anticipating the unexpected nudge… Finally, after 38 years, that long-awaited nudge, symbolically representing some significant change or recognition, arrived for her.

At Channel Seven, things didn’t turn out as I had anticipated in the end. While I was getting a trim at the salon for work purposes, I received a call that shocked me – it signified the culmination of 17 years with the network, marking the end of my tenure there.

She shared that her latest stint with the network had been quite ‘unpleasant’, and she was looking forward to leaving.

In her writing, she expressed a mix of sadness and relief about the decision made. As you may know from recent news, the last few weeks on television have unfortunately been quite dismal.

A considerable number of skilled, faithful, and hardworking staff members were let go, apparently as part of a prolonged procedure that involved gradually reducing what was considered surplus inventory, which may be likened to gradually peeling off a Band-Aid rather than ripping it off quickly.
