It was inevitable, and unfortunately, I’ve been let go, just like everyone else on the Warcraft Rumble team, by Microsoft.
As a passionate gamer, I’ve got some news that might affect our Warcraft Rumble gaming sessions. It appears Blizzard Entertainment has decided to halt the creation of new content for the game, essentially transitioning it into maintenance mode, similar to Heroes of the Storm. This decision came after the recent Microsoft layoffs, which reportedly swept away the entire Warcraft Rumble team. So, we might need to find alternative games to keep our gaming nights lively.

Warcraft Rumble enters maintenance mode
Starting on July 2nd, Blizzard Entertainment announced that further development of Warcraft Rumble, including the creation of new content, has come to an end. Nevertheless, the game will still receive maintenance such as fixing bugs and updating in-game events.
As a devoted gamer, I’ve noticed that ever since Warcraft Rumble was launched, it’s been a bit of a rollercoaster ride trying to keep it going strong. After listening to the valuable insights from players and shifting focus where necessary, as well as exploring fresh possibilities, there have been some promising developments. However, these steps alone haven’t quite managed to meet the long-term sustainability goals we had hoped for.
In this period of change, our emphasis is on aiding our colleagues. We’re incredibly thankful to everyone at Blizzard and within the community for their instrumental role in creating Warcraft Rumble and for appreciating the unique joy that makes this game so captivating. Your energy and insights are priceless to us.

Microsoft layoffs affect entire Warcraft Rumble team
On LinkedIn, Alex Apple, a client engineer, disclosed that Microsoft had let go all members of the Warcraft Rumble team.
In simpler terms, “Microsoft eventually made the expected move and let go of me, as well as the entire Warcraft Rumble team. Now it’s back to the job hunt for me.” (Apple here refers to a person or entity represented by the name Apple.)
As a dedicated fan and follower of the creative world within Blizzard Entertainment, I can’t help but feel the impact when it reaches even the talented graphic designer, ArcaneRatsel. On a particularly challenging day, X marked the unfortunate news that ArcaneRatsel had been let go after eight years with the company. The experience, he shared, was heartrending.
A love letter to Azeroth
The original announcement additionally mentioned that Warcraft Rumble started being developed nine years ago as a heartfelt tribute to Azeroth. This influence is clearly seen in the game’s sound design, visuals, arenas, commander units, abilities, and numerous other aspects. Interviews with Xpsp team members further showcase their dedication to creating fun-filled mayhem throughout the years.
