Blink-182 Star’s BIG Regret: Almost Kissed an ’80s Icon

As a devoted fan and bandmate in Blink-182, I’ve had my fair share of exhilarating adventures, yet there was one opportunity that I declined – a kiss from an ’80s idol who, interestingly enough, was a fellow man.

In a recent interview with The Independent, the 53-year-old bass player disclosed details about his cancer diagnosis that he had previously shared online unintentionally, and also discussed a near-kiss while promoting his new memoir titled Fahrenheit-182.

In 2004, Tom DeLonge successfully persuaded Robert Smith, the lead singer of The Cure, to join our band for a performance at Wembley Stadium. He sang with us “All of This” and also a cover of “Boys Don’t Cry.

‘It was so surreal, such a rad moment,’ he revealed.

‘I went to give him a hug and he leaned in and said, “Give me a kiss.”‘

The bass player instead offered Smith his cheek, which he turned down.

The singer of All the Small Things chuckled as he expressed, ‘If only I had actually done it, it would have made for a much more intriguing tale compared to nearly doing so.’

Mark Hoppus, who’s been blissfully wedded to cinematographer Skye Everly since 2007, stated that he and his Blink-182 bandmates have placed greater emphasis on rock ‘n’ roll, rather than sex, drugs, and partying, throughout their extended tenure in the music industry.

‘We weren’t really big partiers,’ the musician explained.

Occasionally, we might indulge in alcohol or other substances, yet it didn’t define our way of life. There were no regular instances of intoxication among us, and the absence of backstage escapades was evident, as he disclosed.

‘People would literally come back, take a look around and be like, “This is f***ing boring.”‘

He stated, “Given how crucial the band is to us, we never wanted to jeopardize it by engaging in actions similar to those we’ve seen destroy other bands.

Instead of fading into obscurity and running the risk of burning out, the band, with Kourtney Kardashian’s spouse, Travis Barker, as a member, preferred to maintain their energy and relevance. (106 characters)

‘There are numerous stories warning about potential pitfalls, and I want to clarify that we’ve found ourselves in similar situations quite a few times: we’re the band who invested a million dollars on an album; we split up not once but twice and reunited each time. We’ve lived through many rock’n’roll stereotypes, thankfully, our story hasn’t been dominated by substance abuse.’

Despite a history of very public disagreements, Hoppus shared that their reunion was spurred by his cancer diagnosis.

‘Everybody really respects and cherishes one another,’ he declared.

He expressed that everyone shares a fondness for Blink and the creation we’ve made, and we aim to avoid causing any unnecessary changes. Our objective remains unified.

The band has revealed tour dates for their 2025 concert series, commencing in Hollywood, Florida in August and traversing across the United States until October 4th.
