BLG vs G2 at the LoL Esports World Cup 2025

It’s a harsh elimination match! Bilibili Gaming and G2 Esports battle for a spot in the semifinal.

To advance to the quarterfinals at the Esports World Cup 2025 (EWC 2025), two European League of Legends (LoL) teams had to conquer the grueling Group stage. G2 managed this task impressively, winning both their matches. Yet, some might question their full potential — overcoming North and South American opponents doesn’t equal the challenge posed by the Eastern regions’ strength.

Kicking off my EWC journey with the playoffs, I, as a member of Bilibili Gaming (BLG), feel quite confident about our matchup. We’ve had some stellar performances in the past against G2, leaving them short of their aspirations. However, League of Legends esports is notoriously unpredictable, so European fans are keeping their hopes high with crossed fingers!

Worlds 2024 and MSI 2025 memories: BLG and G2 head to head

During the 2024 League of Legends World Championship, there was a crucial game between G2 and BLG. Unfortunately, things didn’t turn out favorably for G2.

In the Swiss format, the teams competed, with G2 kicking things off strongly at a 2-1 advantage overall. However, they suffered a defeat against T1, setting up a match against BLG as their final opponent. It was ultimately Bilibili Gaming who qualified for the Knockout round.

In truth, team G2 played exceptionally well during that match. Not only did they take home victory in game 2, but their performance in game 3 was incredibly tight. It’s often the victors who are most vividly recalled, but in this case, G2 deserves recognition for their impressive display.

At the latest League of Legends global tournament, Mid-Season Invitational 2025 (MSI 2025), Bilibili Gaming dominated G2 during the Play-In stage. In a decisive sweep of 3:0, Bilibili Gaming sent G2 to the lower brackets, which unfortunately led to their elimination in the following match against GAM Esports.

In the LoL EWC 2025, the second European squad to advance to the quarterfinals is KOI. They will face off against T1 on July 18th. The grand finale of the tournament is scheduled for July 20th.
