Blake Lively’s Gossip Girl costar reveals why he felt like he was in ‘pretty boy jail’ after show ended
In the words of Zoolander, “I believe there must be much more to existence than merely being incredibly, extraordinarily, absurdly attractive. I aim to discover what that could possibly be.
Chase Crawford has been on a quest for something authentic ever since he broke free from the “pretty boy stereotype” that confined him during and following his time on Gossip Girl.
In the early 2000s, he portrayed Nate Archibald on a TV drama. The show’s success not only served as a significant milestone in his career but also presented a creative challenge for him.
39-year-old Crawford admitted on a recent Good Guys podcast that he felt as if he’d been wandering in the wilds for years following the end of Gossip Girl.
Since the spectacle was immense, especially for someone at my age then, afterward it seemed, “Wow, that phase isn’t as trendy anymore.
He mentions, “I find myself confined currently, similar to a TV heartthrob on The CW. You get my drift? People thought I lacked versatility.

Crawford found success after Gossip Girl, but he shared that it was far from easy.
In my perspective, it seems that many believe actors earn significantly larger sums of money and hold greater control over their careers than is typically the case.
However, the truth, according to Crawford, was far more frustrating.
Hollywood refused to see him as anything more than a pretty boy and romantic lead.
‘I was probably harder on myself than I needed to be,’ he reflected.
In due time, Crawford found himself eager to delve deeper into more intense, gritty acting opportunities. This ambition came to fruition when he was selected for the cast of Amazon Prime’s series titled The Boys.
The Boys” series presents a comedic take on the superhero genre, with actor Chace portraying the character of a troubled and narcissistic anti-hero known as The Deep.
He mentioned that an audition had recently appeared in his email, and upon reading its summary, he exclaimed something along the lines of, “That sounds absolutely outrageous!” He was reminiscing about this moment.

After perusing this pilot, I found myself exclaiming, “Wow, this is fantastic! It’s remarkably unique, bizarre, and innovative.
He connected with the character instantly. ‘I know that guy,’ he said.
As a connoisseur of lifestyles, I’ve encountered countless individuals much like this one. Thus, stepping into this role felt as comfortable and exhilarating as slipping into an old favorite jacket.
Then, he entered to prepare for the part, only to find fifty other names listed on the schedule, causing a dip in his self-assurance because it seemed the casting directors might have chosen the role during a previous audition.
In every audition, the showrunner (and series creator) was present, which was when Chace discovered his ability to pull it off.
He did one dark scene and one funnier one that got some laughs out of the showrunner.
He booked the role and was over the moon about it.
He expressed his delight, stating that he was overjoyed to find a new job that invigorated him and offered a fresh role distinct from anything he had tackled before. Moreover, he highlighted this as an opportunity to step out of the “pretty boy” stereotype created by Gossip Girl.

Lately, Crawford has been romancing Victoria’s Secret model Kelsey Merritt, 28.
In an appearance on Alex Cooper’s Call My Daddy podcast, Chace revealed his dating dealbreakers.
He said that his dating dealbreakers were ‘punctuality’ and ‘bad tats.’ He elaborated,
He chuckled and said, “A tattoo on someone’s neck might be a problem for me,” but then quickly added, “Funnily enough, it has never been an issue in my experience!
