Blake Lively intends to use a past interview with Justin Baldoni during their legal case, hoping to highlight a statement where he suggests he might have acted inappropriately towards Britney Spears.
The actress is asking the court to view a 2017 video showing Baldoni describing how he approached Britney Spears and hugged her, despite the fact that they were strangers at the time.
Britney was filming an episode of Jane the Virgin, the show Justin Baldoni was on, and was surprised when he hugged her.
In the clip, Baldoni admitted that he asked himself: ‘Did I just harass Britney Spears?’
Oh my gosh, I just heard Lively is planning to use footage from the movie to show everyone how Baldoni acted on set during ‘It Ends With Us’! You know, the one they filmed together last year? It’s like she’s saying his behavior then was a pattern, and she’s finally going to show us what it was really like working with him. I’m so ready for her to expose everything!
In the lawsuit, she alleges that Baldoni sexually harassed her and then tried to damage her reputation online after she confronted him.
The judge overseeing the trial, scheduled to begin May 18th in Manhattan’s Federal court, has already rejected Lively’s accusations of sexual harassment against Baldoni. However, newly released documents indicate these claims will still be presented as evidence in the case.
In 2015, Britney Spears made a guest appearance on the show Jane the Virgin, where she acted in a scene arguing with Jaime Camil’s character, Rogelio.
The show was Baldoni’s breakout role, portraying sleazy playboy Rafael Solano from 2014 to 2019.
I was really excited to see the court filings from Lively included mention of a video interview with him – it’s now part of the official exhibit list, which is great news!
Baldoni shared with Fuse TV that he was really looking forward to working with Britney Spears, but they didn’t end up filming any scenes together. He believes this was likely at her request, as he had mentioned he planned to bring a poster from her Las Vegas show to the set.
Baldoni explained he was just kidding about the poster – he didn’t have one to begin with. However, Britney seemed to believe he was being truthful.
‘I was a huge Britney Spears fan in high school,’ Baldoni said.
‘What adolescent boy wasn’t?’
According to Baldoni, he and a few others went to see Britney film her scenes on set.
Oh my gosh, he was so embarrassed just talking about it! Apparently, because I – I mean, he – tweeted her, and she actually tweeted back, he seriously thought they were friends! He actually went up to her after that, and in his head, that meant they had this whole connection! It was the cutest, most awkward thing ever!
Honestly, we hadn’t met before. When I finally did, I rushed right over and was super enthusiastic – I kept saying ‘Hey!’ and gave her a big hug. I think it totally surprised her; she just quietly said ‘Hi’ back!
Baldoni demonstrated how Britney reacted by leaning back in his chair, and then admitted to feeling awkward, wondering if he’d accidentally harassed her.
According to Baldoni, his fellow actors found the situation incredibly funny, and he saw them laughing so hard they were practically rolling on the floor.
I’ve been following this case closely, and Lively’s compiled an incredibly detailed list – over 800 items, actually! Among other things she’s uncovered, there are videos and photos that seem to be aimed at showing Baldoni doesn’t practice what he preaches. It’s all pretty damning stuff.
Before writing It Ends With Us, Baldoni presented himself as a proponent of feminism and published a book, Man Enough: Undefining My Masculinity, to demonstrate his progressive views on masculinity.
Publicly available emails reveal that Colleen Hoover, the author of the original book, allowed the film adaptation to proceed because the filmmaker promised to prioritize the story from the woman’s perspective.
Lively plans to claim the event was a hoax and intends to present the jury with pictures of him wearing a T-shirt supporting feminism.
She also plans to present a video of Baldoni’s TED Talk, called ‘Why I’m Done Trying to Be ‘Man Enough’ to the jury.
