Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick in ‘Another Simple Favor’ to open SXSW

At this year’s South by Southwest Film & TV Festival taking place in Austin, Texas from March 7th to the 14th, the opening night film will be a world premiere: Paul Feig’s “Another Simple Favor,” featuring Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick.

Despite the recent focus on Lively due to her intricate legal issues with Justin Baldoni, her former co-star and director from the 2021 hit “It Ends With Us”, this new project finds her revisiting one of her iconic characters once more.

The upcoming movie, titled ‘Another Simple Favor,’ serves as a follow-up to the 2018 comedy-thriller ‘A Simple Favor.’ In this film, Anna Kendrick reprises her role as Stephanie Smothers, a single mom who develops an unusual friendship with the enigmatic Emily Nelson, played by Blake Lively. The story unfolds in the beautiful island of Capri, where Emily is preparing to wed a wealthy Italian entrepreneur.

Previously, Feig debuted his movies “Bridesmaids” and “Spy” at SXSW, and in a statement expressed, “There’s no place I’d rather be than at my favorite festival on the planet. … I am incredibly honored that our film will kick off the event. I had always shied away from making sequels for any of my films, but these characters were too entertaining not to revisit again.

In connection with the characters devised by Darcey Bell, the screenplay for the upcoming movie was penned by both Jessica Sharzer (the original author) and Laeta Kalogridis. The production of this film is handled by Feig and Laura Fischer. Notable actors in the cast include Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Morrone, Alex Newell, Henry Golding, and Allison Janney.

A representative for the festival declined to reveal if Blake Lively would attend the event, but part of Feig’s statement said, “Having Anna, Blake, Henry, Andrew, Michele, Elizabeth, Alex, and myself watch our film with the amazing SXSW crowd is a dream come true that I’ll be able to cross off my list on March 7th.

Earlier mentioned, the first night’s broadcast for our upcoming festival features the global debut of “The Studio,” a fresh series co-created by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. Other movies that have been revealed so far include “The Accountant 2” with Ben Affleck in the lead role, “The Death of a Unicorn” starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega, and “Holland” featuring Nicole Kidman.
