Blair Witch, Renfield, and more scary movies coming to Starz in December

As a seasoned gamer and horror enthusiast who’s spent countless nights navigating through digital worlds filled with terrifying creatures, I must admit that Starz has truly outdone itself this December! The lineup of horror movies they’ve got coming is nothing short of exhilarating.

Starz has just revealed its lineup for December, and what might surprise you is that there are quite a few horror films set to arrive on the streaming service next month. This is unexpected because it’s typically the holiday season, and horror movies don’t usually get much attention during this time. However, Starz seems to be bucking the trend!

Besides movies such as “Blair Witch” and “Renfield”, the upcoming 2024 sci-fi action comedy film titled “Borderlands”, directed by Eli Roth and inspired by the hit video game of the same name, will premiere on streaming platforms later this month, specifically on Christmas Day.

Blair Witch movies

  • Blair Witch (2016)
  • The Blair Witch Project
  • Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2

Among the most memorable found-footage horror movies ever made is set to arrive on Starz on December 1st, accompanied by its controversial sequel and 2016 reboot. While opinions differ widely, many now believe that the 2016 film surpasses the original in terms of sheer terror. Whether you concur or not, from December onwards, you’ll have the chance to watch all three films and make up your mind.

In a mockumentary fashion, the first Blair Witch Project narrates the journey of a student group trekking through Burkittsville, Maryland, in pursuit of lore surrounding a notorious local myth. Upon its release, the advertising for this film was so convincingly authentic that numerous viewers mistook it for actual events. Each of these three films will be exclusively available to stream on Starz.

The Crazies (Dec. 8)

It’s common knowledge that remakes, particularly those in the horror genre, often don’t live up to expectations and can turn out poorly. However, this remake of the 1973 film is an exception worth considering as it stands among the finest horror remakes ever made.

Under the guidance of director Breck Eisner, the film The Crazies may not surpass the renowned George A. Romero original, but it manages to be remarkably intelligent and an exhilarating rollercoaster ride nonetheless. After a harmful toxin seeps into a fictional Iowa town, its inhabitants gradually transform into violent killers.

Renfield (Dec. 9)

In an apt scheduling move, the Universal Pictures film titled “Renfield,” starring Dracula’s servant, is set to premiere on Starz, coinciding with the theater release of Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” in the same month. Despite their contrasting tones – with Renfield featuring a blend of action and comedy – both films share notable thematic links. Though it wasn’t widely recognized last year, Renfield offers an entertaining watch. Interestingly, Nicholas Hoult appears in both this film and “Nosferatu.

Starz is promoting their “Black Horror Block” which consists of movies currently available for streaming and will remain so until at least the end of this year.
