Blade Runner Game For Next Xbox and PS6 From Until Dawn Studio Reportedly Canned
It appears that Supermassive Games, known for titles like The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Quarry, and Until Dawn, had been secretively working on a Blade Runner video game intended for the next generation of Xbox and PlayStation (6). However, recent reports suggest that this project has been abandoned.
As a passionate admirer, I’ve learned that according to Insider Gaming (via IGN), Supermassive had been tirelessly crafting a game with a strong character focus, immersive cinematics, and action-adventure elements. This game was set to tell the story of the last Blade Runner in 2065, a tale that would have graced our screens under the title “Blade Runner: Time To Live.” Unfortunately, this captivating project seems to have been put aside, echoing Leon’s famous line from the original 1982 movie, “Wake up, time to die!
The report implies that the story would center on a classic Nexus-6 model replicant character named So-Lange, similar to the one pursued by Harrison Ford in the movie, which is set in the distant future of 1982. As So-Lange, you were tasked with terminating the head of an underground replicant group, but instead, you were deceived and abandoned, left for dead.
The gameplay seems to involve exploration, investigation, sneaking, fighting, and engaging in intense character dialogues, which honestly sounds quite thrilling. It’s said that Blade Runner: Time To Live had a proposed budget of around $45 million, with $9 million allocated for motion capture from outside sources. The game’s single-player story would have lasted approximately 10-12 hours. Pre-production started in September 2024, aiming for a release in September 2027 on the next Xbox, PlayStation 6, and PC.
Although it’s disappointing we won’t get to watch Supermassive’s “Blade Runner: Time To Live,” there’s still the upcoming Annapurna production titled “Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth.” However, since it was announced nearly a year ago, let’s just say we might want to stay patient.
