Silka Luisa, the creator of the new sci-fi series Blade Runner 2099, has cautioned fans that the show might not meet everyone’s expectations.
Luisa announced at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday that the Prime Video show will only have one season and then end.
Luisa recently told Collider that the show was always planned as a single, self-contained season with a definitive conclusion.
From the start, the show was designed as a single, complete story. Adapting something so visually stunning like Blade Runner for television is a big change, and we wanted to create a narrative with a clear beginning, middle, and end – almost like a long movie.
Luisa confirmed the show will consist of eight episodes, explaining that they partnered with Alcon and other producers with the goal of telling a full, complete story.

Okay, so I’m super hyped for Blade Runner 2099! It’s being made by Ridley Scott, which is awesome, and it takes place half a century after Blade Runner 2049. Basically, it’s going to be a whole new chapter in that universe, and I can’t wait to see what happens.
Okay, so the story kicks off about fifty years after Blade Runner 2049. Apparently, Los Angeles has been totally rebuilt, but it’s not humans doing the rebuilding. I’m playing as Cora (Schafer), and she’s on the run, trying to lay low for good. To do that, she takes on one last job: becoming a Blade Runner. Sounds intense!
She’s forced to team up with Olwen, a Replicant with very little time left, to track down a fugitive whose secret could destroy their already vulnerable city.
So, I’m really excited about the cast for this new show! Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben are going to be main characters, alongside Michelle Yeoh and Karl Schafer. Plus, Amy Lennox, who I remember from Holby City, is joining them, along with a bunch of other awesome actors like Daniel Rigby, Katelyn Rose Downey, Johnny Harris, Sheila Atim, Matthew Needham, Tom Burke, and Maurizio Lombardi. It’s shaping up to be a seriously talented group!
Blade Runner 2099 will premiere globally on Prime Video on 25 November 2026.
