Blade Movie in Turmoil: 2 Actors Out, 3rd Star on the Chopping Block!

It seems that the latest updates suggest that Marvel Studios‘ Blade movie might be experiencing another departure of a significant actor. The Blade project was initially announced in 2019, with Mahershala Ali set as the main character, the vampire slayer. Over the years, the progress of the Blade film has been halted and resumed, encountering changes in directors, new cast members, and prolonged periods in development limbo.

In April 2023, it was revealed that Mia Goth would join the cast of the upcoming movie “Blade,” with her character being the villain Lilith. But later in the same year, strikes by Writers’ and Actors Guilds halted the film’s progress, pushing it into continuous development stages. Most recently, news broke that Goth will be joining the cast of Shawn Levy’s “Star Wars: Starfighter,” alongside Ryan Gosling. The movie “Starfighter” is aiming for a release in May 2027 and is expected to start filming this year.

For Star Wars enthusiasts, this casting development is thrilling, but it may indicate trouble brewing for Blade. With Goth now tied up with a significant production this year, it raises concerns that Blade won’t start filming anytime soon, or perhaps not at all. The last update regarding Blade’s production timeline was in October 2024, when Disney took the film off its release schedule, which could suggest that the MCU film might be facing an uncertain future.

If the Marvel film “Blade” recovers and plans to shoot in 2025, there might be a possibility that Goth could face scheduling issues due to her Star Wars obligations, forcing her to step down from the MCU movie. This isn’t an unprecedented occurrence during the production of “Blade”. Previously, other actors who were initially part of the “Blade” cast had to withdraw at a later stage.

Which Blade Cast Members Have Dropped Out of the MCU Film?

Aaron Pierre

As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I can share that Aaron Pierre, who brought Mufasa to life in The Lion King, joined the cast of Marvel’s Blade in 2022 under Bassam Tariq’s direction. However, my role in the movie remains a secret as it was never disclosed, and it has remained undisclosed since I parted ways with the project in 2024. When I confirmed my departure, I hinted at the project’s evolution as the reason behind my decision, expressing this to Variety:

Initially, discussions took place about the project. However, as it progressed, I found myself no longer involved or connected to it.

Since then, the actor has been hired by a competing superhero world, securing a part in the TV show “Green Lanterns” within the DC Universe.

Delroy Lindo

Actor Delroy Lindo, who plays a leading role in the series “Sinners,” was initially involved with the project for “Blade” during its early stages. At that point, Bassett, who was serving as the director, had not yet disclosed the character that Lindo would portray.

This year, Lindo announced his exit from the series “Blade“, explaining to Entertainment Weekly that the project had taken an unexpected turn, saying it “derailed”.

According to Lindo, when Marvel approached him, they appeared genuinely eager for his ideas. During my discussions with producers, the screenwriter, and the director at that time, everything pointed towards a highly inclusive project. It was not only intriguing conceptually but also thrilling regarding the character development. Unfortunately, for some reason, the whole thing derailed.

Lindo has since moved on to star in the next Godzilla x Kong film Supernova.

Regarding the actors connected to the “Blade” project (those who haven’t announced their exit yet), Milan Ray is still involved, albeit the specifics of his role are kept secret, and Ali continues to be dedicated to portraying the character Blade.
