Blackpink star and K-pop sensation Rosé discusses little-known Melbourne upbringing and reveals whether she will return to Australia

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but be in awe of Rosé’s meteoric rise from Melbourne classrooms to the global stage with Blackpink. Her journey, marked by humble beginnings and unparalleled success, resonates deeply with me. Born and raised Down Under, she was discovered at just 16, leaving her old life behind for Seoul and a world of singing, dancing, and language lessons.

She’s best known as a member of the mega-selling K-pop sensation Blackpink.

And right now Rosé (born Roseanne Park) has a number one ARIA hit APT with Bruno Mars.

However, the 27-year-old singer from New Zealand, brought up in Melbourne, has expressed her desire to go back to Australia.

During my chat with Jase and Lauren on Nova 100 last Friday, I freely confessed, “I can’t help but yearn for a return.

Rosé went on to share her feelings about returning after some time away, saying, “I truly do miss it here.” (implying she was talking about the place where she dropped her new solo album ‘Rosie’ on Friday)

At the tender age of sixteen, this budding vocalist was enrolled at Melbourne’s Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College, little did she know that her exceptional talent would be spotted during an Australian audition for YG Entertainment, a renowned Korean entertainment agency.

Elsewhere in the chat the hitmaker said that her recent trips back ‘home’ have been ‘nostalgic’.

‘I drive past my school, I go sometimes say ”hi” to my favourite school teachers….

“I find myself doing things I used to do, such as driving past my childhood home in Bulleen. Every time we pass by, I can’t help but reminisce about my old pet.

Additionally, she contemplated their latest triumph with Bruno Mars, as their collaboration on the catchy APT single soared to the top of both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

Rosé found it surprising since she was known as a quiet student at school, but now it’s astonishing to learn that everyone is tuning into her song,” Rosé shared.

Following her discovery by the prominent K-pop label YG Entertainment, she moved to Seoul and spent numerous years learning singing, dancing, and the language there, before making her debut alongside Blackpink in the latter half of 2016.

She made a triumphant return Down Under back in 2019 with her girl group selling out shows in Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena.

Presently, Blackpink ranks among the most prominent global girl bands, achieving a staggering 20 million album sales and accumulating over 40 billion song streams.

In 2020 Blackpink scored a milestone by breaking multiple Guinness World Records.

The group smashed the record books thanks to the success of the their single, How You Like That.

In just a single day on YouTube, the music video for the track racked up an impressive 86.3 million views, setting a new record as the most watched video within 24 hours on the site.

The music video has also broken the record for the most viewed music video on YouTube within 24 hours, and it now holds that title among all K-pop groups.

Earlier, the titles of all those three records were owned by the South Korean boy band BTS, specifically for their single titled “Boy With Luv,” which features the American artist Halsey.

Notably, artists like Ariana Grande (with “Thank U, Next”) and Taylor Swift (“Look What You Made Me Do”) have previously held the title of record-breakers.

Later that year Rosé became the global face of Saint Laurent for the luxury fashion house’s Fall 2020 campaign.

As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but sing praises about Rosé, whose multifaceted abilities have left me awestruck. From her enchanting vocal performances that earn her the title of ‘the golden voice’ to her captivating dance moves, she truly is a divine talent in my eyes.

But fans jokes that the K-pop star also has a mythical, supernatural ability – causing break-ups.

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but ponder over the intriguing theory that this New Zealand-bred singer is somehow linked to high-profile breakups – like Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn, or Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik. It’s all because I’ve seen images of them together, and my fan heart can’t help but speculate!

Social media has dubbed the phenomenon Rosé’s ‘curse’.

Last year, a trend took off on various social media platforms, where fans began noticing strange coincidences between the star’s photos with A-list celebrities and the timing of their break-ups, as reported by Know Your Meme.
