Man, 2025 has been amazing for Ryan Coogler! With the huge success of Sinners added to his already awesome work – like the Black Panther movies – everyone’s starting to wonder when he’ll jump back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I’m definitely one of those fans who’s really eager to know what he’s got planned next!
Ryan Coogler has started working on Black Panther 3, but a release date hadn’t been announced until recently. According to The New York Times, after speaking with Coogler, the film is now expected to come out in 2028.
That is critical information, and for a few reasons.
By the time Wakanda gets its third movie, Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be well underway. This film, Black Panther: Shadows of Wakanda, will come after both Avengers: Doomsday (December 2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (December 2027), meaning a significant portion of the overall storyline will already have been developed.
“I’m so fired up about that movie, bro.” – Ryan Coogler on Black Panther 3
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really hoping we see Shuri, who’s now the Black Panther after Chadwick Boseman’s passing, play a big role in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars movies. It just makes sense! I think Kevin Feige and Marvel will probably need Wakanda to be right in the middle of all that chaos, and it could lead to a really interesting Black Panther: Shadows of Wakanda story. Imagine a movie focusing on what happens after the big battles, dealing with the political and social fallout, and even which side Shuri and her warriors ultimately choose in the war. It would be amazing!
Black Panther 3 Will Be Worth the Wait
Details about the cast for Ryan Coogler’s next Black Panther movie have been largely secret, but it’s confirmed that Denzel Washington will be involved, though his specific role hasn’t been announced yet. This has led to a lot of guessing about what part he’ll play, with some fans thinking he could portray a younger version of T’Challa, showing his early years. However, there are other interesting possibilities for his character as well.
Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, said the film was incredibly challenging to make, even feeling impossible at times. But once it was finished and he was satisfied with the result, he realized he could happily continue working with Marvel for years to come.
Everyone is eagerly anticipating the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, which could be released within the next day or as late as with the previews for Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19, 2025. There’s also a lot of excitement about Tom Holland’s next Spider-Man movie, Brand New Day, but the upcoming Black Panther film is generating just as much buzz, even though fans will have to wait considerably longer for it – and for good reason.
Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever are both streaming currently on Disney+.
