New information on the Film and Television Industry Alliance website has sparked excitement about the next Black Panther movie. Ryan Coogler, who will return as director after completing his 2025 film Sinners, is working on a sequel to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The movie is currently titled Black Panther: Shadows of Wakanda, and filming is set to begin in London on June 16th.
The upcoming Black Panther 3, tentatively titled Shadows of Wakanda, will focus on how Wakanda copes after T’Challa’s passing, with Shuri taking on the roles of both a warrior and a leader. This suggests that Letitia Wright’s character will survive the events of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars films, where Earth’s heroes will face off against Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.). Director Ryan Coogler recently confirmed that the project is actively in development, stating, “We’re working on [Black Panther 3]. We’re working hard. Yeah, it’s the next movie.”
Denzel Washington Will Be Joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Paramount Pictures
It’s fantastic news that Letitia Wright will reprise her role as Shuri in Black Panther: Shadows of Wakanda, alongside returning favorites Danai Gurira as Okoye, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, and Winston Duke as M’Baku. However, the most buzzworthy part of the upcoming film is the potential involvement of Denzel Washington. While not officially confirmed, both Washington and director Ryan Coogler have hinted at working together on a Marvel Cinematic Universe project in the past. Back in 2024, the acclaimed actor, known for films like Glory, Training Day, and Gladiator 2, playfully suggested:
Honestly, I’m not sure how many films I have left in me, probably not a huge number. I’m really focused on trying new things and challenging myself. It’s amazing to me that I’m getting to revisit roles like Othello – I played him when I was 22, and now again at 70! I’ve got Hannibal lined up after that, and I’m excited about a potential project with Steve McQueen. Ryan Coogler is even writing a part for me in the next Black Panther movie, which is incredible. Then, I’m planning to do another version of Othello, followed by King Lear. After that, I think I’m finally going to hang up my hat and retire. It’s been a wonderful journey, but I’m ready for what’s next.
Denzel Washington first became a fan of the Black Panther movies after seeing the first one in New York City. He was deeply moved while watching, realizing he had helped pave the way for a new generation of successful Black artists.
Watching Black Panther was incredibly emotional for me. I met Chadwick Boseman and Ryan Coogler before the New York premiere, and seeing them and the film brought back memories of my entire career. I looked around at the young audience and just started crying – it was a really powerful moment.
It felt like a huge relief. Seeing Sidney Poitier and all that he accomplished, and then realizing I was coming up behind him – along with many others – it was a lot. I felt like I was taking the baton in a relay race, running after those who had already set the pace. I’m still running now, trying to keep up, but it feels like those pioneers are no longer here. They’ve moved on.
