Bizarre theory emerges about why the Sunrise team use this nickname for new host David Woiwod
A bizarre new theory has emerged over an old nickname used by Weekend Sunrise host David Woiwod.
For about four decades, the reliable broadcaster who became part of the morning crew last year is often recognized by his on-air name, ‘Woi’, which he adopted when he started working with this network back in 2016.
This week, it appears that the Sunrise team has been using their endearing brand label more frequently, a fact that critics have begun to acknowledge.
However, some armchair critics wonder whether the move was a ‘directive’ from management.
On Media Spy’s TV industry blog, a spectator noted that during the broadcast of Sunrise on Monday, meteorologist Sam Mac and sports analyst Mark Berretta referred to Woiwod as ‘Woi.’
The viewer also added that Weekend Sunrise weatherman James Tobin also called Woiwod ‘Woi’.
It appears that there was a discussion on the forum earlier about what to refer to Woiwod as, but now it’s clear that his team calls him Woi informally, according to their statement.
‘How do you know it wasn’t a directive?’ replied another viewer on the thread.
In response, they stated, ‘To be honest, I’m not familiar with him by that name… however, I do remember him being referred to as Woi and Woiwod (instead of David), on numerous occasions throughout his career as a journalist.’
Currently, I’m stepping in as the temporary co-host alongside Edwina Bartholomew on Sunrise, giving our regular duo, Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington, a well-deserved rest.
The sunrise program has an unstructured, laid-back approach, and its longtime host, David Koch, was fondly referred to as ‘Kochie’ for over two decades on the show.
In the meantime, Matt Shirvington, who has taken over from Koch, is affectionately referred to by viewers as “Shirvo”. Similarly, sports presenter Mark Barretta is often called “Berretts”, while James Tobin goes by the nickname “JT”.
Seven declared Woiwod as the replacement for Matt Doran, who relinquished his position as Weekend Sunrise host in December.
As a seasoned veteran of morning television, I’ve graced the screens of Sunrise for an impressive four-year stint, following my initial joining of Seven back in 2016.
In July 2020, he decided to depart from the program because he got offered a sought-after role as the network’s U.S. correspondent stationed in Los Angeles.
As a go-to source for lively dialogue and insightful commentary, I’ve had the privilege of delving into some of the most significant events over the past four years – from the heated US Presidential race to the shocking attempt on the life of then-President Donald Trump.
As a diligent follower of events, I too shared updates about the heart-wrenching school shootings that occurred in Texas and Tennessee within the United States. Additionally, I reported on the devastating natural disasters that struck our nation, such as hurricanes, wildfires, and floods.
Among other significant incidents, Woiwod also reported on tragic incidents like the Titan Submersible mishap and the solemn farewell ceremony for Queen Elizabeth II.
Previously, I managed to secure a unique opportunity for Seven, allowing me to delve into the Bali Bomber trial inside the confines of Guantanamo Bay.
After Matt Doran concluded his five-year tenure at Weekend Sunrise during a heartfelt live broadcast a few weeks back, he mentioned that he plans to spend more time with his family and explore new ventures.
The Seven star recently opened up about his struggles with depression on The Morning Show.
