Birds Of A Feather Star Updates on Co-star’s Dementia Battle
As a devoted admirer, I’m excitedly following the latest news about my beloved Pauline Quirke, who I’ve always looked up to. Her family recently revealed that she’s battling dementia, and I’m eagerly awaiting each new update on her journey.
66-year-old actress from “Birds of a Feather” shared with TopMob that she’s been personally reaching out to her ex-co-star Pauline (also 65) over the phone for support.
At the TV Choice Awards on Monday, Linda mentioned that she had a brief chat with Pauline over video call, but it wasn’t very interactive.
She stated that merely catching a glimpse of her was satisfying enough, implying that even though there wasn’t much discussion during their video call, it felt good to see her visage anyway.
Linda mentioned that people have expressed sympathy towards her concerning Pauline, stating something like: “Yes, they often express their condolences for your friend.
She mentioned that she plans to visit soon, stating, “I’ll be there to see her next week. Right now, she’s in good hands with her family and is doing well.

At the gathering, Linda was accompanied by her fellow panelists from “Loose Women,” and swiftly put an end to any rumors suggesting discord within the “ITV” work environment.
When asked if it was enjoyable spending time with the Loose Women, she replied: “Oh yes, it’s absolutely delightful. There are no disagreements or conflicts among us.
For the past two decades, we’ve shared a close bond, and I’ve been part of this endeavor. However, this particular activity has been in existence for a quarter of a century. I consider myself fortunate to continue being involved with it.
Now we’ve also included some of the younger ones, and it’s quite pleasant. They include Myleene, Frankie Bridge, Olivia Attwood. Following them are the veterans. It surprises me that I now belong to this group, as I never imagined I would be considered one of the veterans.
Last week, it was shared that Pauline, sadly, is now unable to identify her family members due to the challenging fight she’s facing against dementia.
Last month, her spouse, Steve Sheen, declared that she would be taking a break from all work commitments, both commercial and professional, following her four-year battle with the illness.
Currently, Maurice Glen, a collaborator on the sitcom that catapulted Pauline into fame together with her friend Linda Robson (age 66), disclosed that Pauline’s health situation has worsened regrettably and appears to be progressing more rapidly.
Informing the publication: ‘At 65 years old, one can’t help but empathize with her situation. It seems that at first, she believed she was losing control. Recently, it has become clear that she finds it challenging to recognize members of her immediate family.’

In 1996, Pauline got married to television producer Steve, and together they have a son named Charlie who is currently 30 years old. Additionally, Pauline has an older daughter named Emily, who is 40 years of age, from a past relationship.
Last month, I, being absolutely smitten with Lesley Joseph, the brilliant star of Birds Of A Feather, received a heartwarming call from her just before her latest announcement hit the headlines.
In response to Lesley asking whether Pauline’s spouse, Steve Sheen, had reached out, I informed her he hadn’t. Then, Lesley said, “It seems Steve Sheen intends to make a public statement about Pauline in order to quell all the rumors”.
Speculations about a disagreement between Pauline and her co-star Linda surfaced when Pauline left Birds Of A Feather in 2017, and her character Sharon Theodopolopodous was missing from the 2020 Christmas special, a year before she received her diagnosis.
A deeply saddened Maurice, who collaborated on the sitcom with Laurence Marks, remarked: ‘Pauline’s gift for making our words shine has never ceased to amaze me. It’s painfully tragic.’
After Charlie, Pauline’s son, expressed that he was touched by the outpouring of supportive messages he received after his mother’s diagnosis became public knowledge.
Sharing for the first time about his diagnosis, he posted a picture on his Instagram Stories along with his mom.

Hey everyone! Just popping in here to express my heartfelt gratitude for your outpouring of love, encouragement, and beautiful tales. Your kind words about my dear mom are truly cherished – they mean the world to me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
As a family, we’re deeply moved and grateful for everyone’s kindness. It has brought joy to each one of us. We truly value every single person. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Linda, Pauline’s fellow actor, has similarly spoken up about Pauline’s dementia diagnosis in a deeply emotional Instagram post.
Linda, acting as Pauline’s on-screen sibling Tracey, penned down: ‘I am stepping up to express my thoughts for my cherished friend, Pauline, on this occasion alone.’
Over the last three years, I’ve had frequent interactions with Steve, who is Pauline’s husband, and have also spent time with Pauline herself.
It deeply saddens me to witness her suffer through such a harsh sickness. To honor her family’s wishes and maintain her privacy, I won’t delve deeper into this topic. Warm regards, Linda x
Pauline played the lead role on “Birds of a Feather” alongside Linda and Lesley Joseph from 1988 to 1999, and again during its revival between 2014 and 2017.
Initially, there was a deep-seated rift between Pauline and Linda, a duo known for their strong bond and popularity in the UK, but Linda has since dismissed rumors suggesting any past disputes.
According to sources, Pauline chose not to participate in the 2019 30th anniversary show due to some significant and intense problems that had arisen.
Meanwhile, Linda found herself growing more bonded with her fellow actor Lesley, portraying the role of Dorien Green, the man-eating neighbor. It is said that they mutually agreed not to involve Pauline in the 2020 Christmas special production.
It appeared that the events signified the conclusion of the beloved character, Sharon, portrayed by Pauline, who supposedly embarked on a voyage at sea, providing an explanation for her prolonged absence.
Apart from her part in the sitcom “Birds of a Feather,” Pauline has also appeared on TV shows like “Emmerdale,” “Broadchurch,” and delivered a BAFTA-worthy performance in “The Sculptress.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m sharing some personal news today. With a sense of sadness, I want to express that my dear wife, Pauline, has decided to take a step back from her professional and commercial commitments, following her diagnosis of Dementia in the year 2021. This decision was made with careful consideration and love for her well-being.

Pauline has served as an inspiring figure due to her contributions in the film and television sector, her philanthropic efforts, and by founding the highly successful Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA).
Her exceptional abilities, commitment, and innovative ideas have positively impacted numerous individuals and will persist in doing so as her body of work endures and through PQA, a platform where her vision and mentorship have fostered growth and passion for the Arts among many young people, boosting their self-assurance.
Pauline might be recognized primarily for her role as Sharon Theodopolopodous on the long-running, laugh-out-loud sitcom ‘Birds of a Feather,’ which was on TV for almost three decades.

Pauline might be most recognized for her role as Sharon Theodopolopodous in the long-running, laugh-out-loud sitcom ‘Birds of a Feather,’ which aired for almost three decades.
In the world of drama, she delivered exceptional performances, earning a BAFTA nomination for her role as the sculptor in ‘The Sculptress.’ Similarly, her portrayal of the enigmatic Susan Wright in ‘Broadchurch,’ aired on ITV, was equally impressive.
Showcasing her diverse acting skills, she has been featured in over 60 television and film projects, such as Carrie’s War, North and South, Casualty, Cold Blood, The Pilfering Headmistress, My Family, You, Me, and the Apocalypse, and not forgetting Emmerdale.
In the span of fifty years, Pauline has been a frequent nominee for various awards. These include recognition as Best TV Comedy Actress at the British Comedy Awards, Best Newcomer at the British Soap Awards, and numerous nominations for Most Popular Actress and Most Popular Comedy Performer in the National Television Awards.
In the year 2022, Pauline received an MBE during the Queen’s last Birthday Honors list. This award was a touching tribute to her outstanding service with youth, her significant impact in the field of entertainment, and her unwavering commitment to philanthropic endeavors.
After wrapping up her acting career, Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA), which boasts a network of around 250 academies and over 15,000 students nationwide across the UK, will carry on thriving under normal conditions. This is in line with Pauline’s vision for the institution.
The accomplished senior management team will continue to foster the prosperity and advancement of these Academies, expanding upon the principles, spirit, and vision that were initially instilled by Pauline back in 2007.
Let’s show compassion and respect for Pauline and her family as they go through a challenging time, by granting them the privacy they need.
At present, we won’t conduct any interviews or offer additional comments because Pauline wishes to devote her time to her loved ones, which includes her family, kids, and grandkids.
We are truly appreciative of the backing we’ve received from fellow students, the community, as well as the hardworking team members and school principals at PQA.
