Binky Felstead is called out by bakery owner for ‘asking for free cake for son Wilder’s third birthday in exchange for Instagram post’

Binky Felstead faced criticism online after a bakery owner claimed she requested a free birthday cake for her son, Wilder, offering an Instagram post in return.

Reshmi Bennett, a 42-year-old London-based owner of the high-end cake company Anges de Sucre, has previously been in the news for publicly expressing her frustration with influencers asking for complimentary cakes.

Her social media is filled with posts stating she won’t accept simply being promoted as payment for her baking services; she requires actual money.

It appears Binky Felstead, from the show Made In Chelsea, didn’t see the original message. Instead, her assistant contacted Reshmi to order a cake for her son Wilder’s third birthday.

On Thursday, Reshmi posted screenshots to Instagram revealing that Binky’s representatives had asked for a free yellow train-shaped cake in exchange for promotion on Instagram.

Reshmi jokingly created a fake GoFundMe page, requesting £1.4 million for the cake – a playful nod to the large number of followers celebrity Binky has online.

At first, Reshmi hid Binky’s name in the screenshots of emails she shared, but she eventually revealed who Binky was in a subsequent post.

A spokesperson for Binky explained to the Daily Mail that the request was a typical one from her assistant. They offered to promote a business on social media in return for a birthday cake.

Binky wasn’t part of these email conversations and is currently on vacation with family. We understand this kind of teamwork isn’t everyone’s preference and we respect your choice to not participate.

The initial order we received from Reshmi’s business requested a yellow train-shaped cake. They also mentioned a potential collaboration with someone on Instagram who has 1.4 million followers.

Reshmi explained she attempted to turn the inquiry into a sale by asking the client for their budget, postcode, and any relevant images.

Binky’s team responded, asking if we’d be interested in a collaboration. They proposed gifting the cake in exchange for a post about [redacted] on Instagram.

Instead of reacting with a sharp or playful comment – something Reshmi admitted she’d usually do – she calmly told Binky she was disappointed. She then pointed out Binky’s financial resources, implying it would be more appropriate if Binky covered the cost.

Binky’s team acknowledged Reshmi’s concern about how things looked and said they’d discuss payment with the star before getting back to her.

Reshmi then shared screenshots of their conversation on Instagram.

After seeing her post, Binky’s team sent her a disappointed email, clarifying that their intention wasn’t to simply get a free cake.

Binky often shares content about her children on Instagram, which gets a lot of attention. This can be really beneficial for businesses she works with, helping them reach new audiences they wouldn’t normally connect with.
