The popular drama series on Paramount+ has finished its second season. The finale cleverly mirrored the ending of the first season, leaving viewers eager for the next installment.
Good news for fans: Paramount+ has confirmed more of the show is on the way. However, rumors have been circulating about whether Billy Bob Thornton will return as Tommy Norris. Thornton recently addressed these reports in an interview with USA Today, dismissing them as false information created by AI.
Billy Thornton, who played the president of M-Tex Oil, was unexpectedly fired by Demi Moore’s character, Cami Miller, near the end of the second season. Although this event occurred on the show, many news outlets reported that Thornton was actually leaving the series.
The actor quickly denied the recent rumors. He explained that a report claiming he and Demi Moore are in a relationship, as well as one suggesting he’s leaving his show, are both completely false.
Now that Landman Season 3 is confirmed, the Academy Award-winning actor has stated he will return for the new season.
I was really excited to hear that Thornton is hoping to stay with Landman for the entire run of the show! He didn’t give away any plot details, which is fair, but he did say how much he’s enjoyed working with the incredible Sam Elliott. It’s fantastic that we got to see them together, especially with Elliott playing Tommy’s father starting in Season 2 – what a pairing!
He expressed his enthusiasm for the show, saying he plans to continue participating for as long as it continues. He’s happy with either five or six years, or even longer if the show remains successful.
Currently, details are limited. The next season is anticipated to arrive around late 2026. The show first premiered on November 17, 2024, and its first season ran until January 12. Filming for the second season began in early April 2025, and it was released on November 16, 2025 – exactly one year after the initial debut. Filming for Season 2 concluded on January 18.
Production for Season 3 is scheduled to begin in the spring, with filming likely starting around May, according to creator Taylor Sheridan. If production follows a similar timeline to previous seasons, fans can expect the new season of Landman to arrive in November. However, Paramount+ hasn’t officially announced a release date yet.
Landman Season 2 Turned Out to Be Divisive
Taylor Sheridan’s newest show has consistently earned a 78% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes across both seasons. Critics have particularly praised Billy Bob Thornton’s acting, though some have found fault with the show’s overall direction.
Season 2 received mixed reactions, with viewers being far less enthusiastic than critics. While critics gave it a decent score, the audience approval rating was only 41%, and many felt the storylines strayed too far from the show’s original focus on the oil industry.
Viewers felt the show strayed from its original appeal, offering either repetitive storylines or barely any focus on the oil industry at all. One review stated that fans wanted to see the authentic, rugged character of Billy Bob, but he was transformed into a weak, secondary character in a dull soap opera.
Landman Season 2 is now available to stream on Paramount+.
