Bill's boyfriend from Agatha All Along is not his boyfriend from the comics...for now

As a seasoned movie critic with decades of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) viewings under my belt, I found “Agatha All Along” to be a refreshing change of pace from the usual MCU formula. The show stood tall on its own two feet and didn’t require me to keep one eye on the clock, waiting for the next plot twist or post-credit scene. It was like attending a family reunion where everyone behaved themselves for once!

Marvel is constantly coming up with new ideas, as demonstrated by their latest series, “Agatha All Along“. The finale of this show left us wanting more, but it’s unclear if there will be another season. However, it’s possible that characters like Agatha (Kathryn Hahn) and Billy (Joe Locke) might appear in a future film instead. Marvel always seems to have something exciting brewing.

As a movie enthusiast, I found it refreshing to immerse myself in the self-contained story of ‘Agatha All Along’ without constantly scanning for hints about future instalments. Unlike Marvel productions, which often leave fans anticipating post-credits sequences, this series concluded neatly and left no unanswered questions. In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly, creator Jac Schaeffer revealed that she had written several post-credit scenes for the show, a practice she’s followed in all her Marvel projects. However, Marvel chose not to include a tag in this series, providing viewers with a satisfying and standalone experience.

Still, my antenna couldn’t help but be pricked in the back half of the show during an episode dedicated to exploring Billy’s past. In Marvel Comics, Billy becomes a superhero named Wiccan; we saw him done something like his superhero suit in the finale. In that flashback episode, we meet Billy’s boyfriend Eddie, played by Miles Gutierrez-Riley. In the comics, Billy has a boyfriend named Teddy, who is actually a Skrull shapeshifter who adopts the superhero persona of Hulkling. Are they one and the same?

In an earlier stage, there were discussions about the character Hulkling, Schaeffer noted. Originally, they had planned to call him Teddy, as the team was examining the artwork and considering that name. The decision from Marvel not to present him as Hulkling in our series was made for the show’s specific purposes. In our series, he goes by Eddie instead, a name chosen to honor someone significant within the writers’ room. This wasn’t intended to mislead fans; rather, it was a heartfelt tribute to an individual who holds special significance for us.

To clarify, Eddie isn’t Hulkling as originally planned, but there might be some room for Marvel to modify the character and bestow powers upon him in future shows or movies, given the ambiguity in Schaeffer’s statement about our show. In Agatha All Along, we discovered that Billy is actually Wanda Maximoff’s son, born from her reality-bending abilities, who inhabited the body of the dying William Kaplan and grew up with a dissociated identity. Given the complexity and acceptance of this concept in the series, it seems anything is possible for Marvel.

It’s uncertain if any actors from “Agatha All Along” will return for another season, but given the strong reception the show has received, it seems likely that we’ll see more mysteries to solve in the future.
