Billionaire socialite Sabine Getty’s gown gets STUCK in escalator at Oscars during dramatic moment

At the 2026 Oscars, Sabine Getty had a scary experience when her dress became caught in an escalator.

This week, 41-year-old socialite and wife of hedge fund manager Joseph Getty shared details on Instagram about a chaotic situation she experienced.

The Lebanese jewelry designer wore a long, flowing ivory silk dress by Ralph Lauren. The dress was sleeveless and had cutouts in the back, adding a touch of allure.

Her blonde locks were curled and pulled back away from her face, easily revealing mini earrings. 

Getty was spotted sitting near the bottom of an escalator inside the Dolby Theatre, where the awards show had just finished.

Her dress seemed to be stuck at the bottom, preventing her from moving.

Several staff members were seen helping the celebrity try to free her dress from the escalator.

In a brief video shared with the post, Getty was shown bending down and exclaiming, ‘It’s such a beautiful dress!’

When someone suggested the group be made ‘smaller,’ the lead actress reacted with dismay, covering her face with her hands.

‘No, it’s really sad,’ the designer said as staff continued to find a way to get the gown out.

One of the images in the Instagram post was a screenshot of a text message that said: ‘It was busy, but not as crazy as I imagined—more like a chaotic scene with a dress mishap.’

In the caption of the post, she simply penned to her followers: ‘The DRAMA @theacademy.’

The mother of two has previously shared her getting-ready routine for glamorous events.

She explained that her inspiration likely stemmed from her time in England, admiring beautiful places like the Serpentine and the V&A museum, but ultimately, it was always clothing that captured her attention.

Getty went to the 98th Academy Awards because a project she worked on was nominated for an award.

She was an executive producer on the 2025 docudrama film titled The Voice Of Hind Rajab.

In 2015, the celebrity married Joseph Getty, whose family includes the famous oil magnate J. Paul Getty.

The couple are parents to daughter Gene and son Jupiter. 

Last year marked ten years of marriage for her and Joseph, and she recently shared her thoughts on the anniversary in an interview with Vogue Arabia.

It truly feels like a big accomplishment. She explained that the pandemic was a defining moment, as constantly being together isn’t simple for anyone.

We definitely had our difficulties, but they made us even closer. Honestly, we’re at our best when we’re simply spending time together – that’s the benefit of being married to your best friend.

Getty was born in Geneva and raised in both Switzerland as well as Lebanon. 

The designer explained to the publication that despite appearances, they deeply identify with their Lebanese heritage. They described leaving the orderly environment of Geneva for the vibrant and captivating city of Beirut.

She described seeing beautiful, old homes standing next to buildings destroyed by bullets in Achrafieh. This stark contrast – the mix of destruction and beauty – helped her learn to appreciate beauty in all places.

It has also been an inspiration when it comes to her own creativity and fashion. 

I love color, but I feel most confident in black. It’s all about the shape – black creates a really powerful, streamlined look,” Getty explained. “Fashion should be fun and a way to show who you are.”
