Billie Piper will star alongside Olivia Colman and Andrew Scott in Elsinore, a new biopic featuring a strong cast of British actors. The film is described as a powerful and dramatic story.
The upcoming film, written by Stephen Beresford and directed by Simon Stone, stars Callum Scott as Ian Charleson. It focuses on the Scottish actor’s life as he prepared to play Hamlet while secretly battling HIV.
Filming has officially begun on the upcoming biopic, bringing Piper and Stone back together after they worked on the play Yerma in 2016. While it’s not yet known which character the Doctor Who star will play, more information is expected to be released shortly.
What to Read Next
Piper is just one of many new faces joining the cast. Johnny Flynn, Luke Thompson, Monica Dolan, Juliet Stevenson, Joe Locke, Adeel Akhtar, Matthew Beard, David Dawson, Kadiff Kirwan, Dickie Beau, and Peter Mullan will also be appearing.
Besides Scott, who is also a producer on the movie, Olivia Colman is the only other actor confirmed to appear. She will play the role of Charleson’s doctor.

The film Elsinore is based on the true story of actor Ian Charleson, and follows his inspiring journey as he prepared to play Hamlet at London’s National Theatre, despite facing significant challenges.
Actor Charleson, known for his role in Chariots of Fire, died in 1990 at the age of 40 from complications related to AIDS. He bravely asked that his cause of death be made public, making him the first celebrity in the UK to have their death attributed to the disease.

Director Stone, known for films like The Dig and The Woman in Cabin 10 after a career in theater, described the upcoming biopic as one of the most thrilling projects of her career.
Stephen Beresford’s script is wonderfully moving and funny, a touching celebration of how communities come together during difficult times. Andrew Scott delivers a truly remarkable performance, reminiscent of the legendary Ian Charleson – it’s a perfect casting choice.
Elsinore doesn’t yet have a release date.
