Fisher, best known for playing Princess Leia in the Star Wars films, passed away in 2016 at age 60. Lourd commemorated the day with a post on Instagram, sharing photos of her parents taken in the same location 25 years apart, and included a heartfelt message.

It’s been nine years since my mom passed away. This morning, my daughter woke up early, and we went outside. She instinctively rested her head on my chest, looked at me with her sweet eyes, and said ‘I love you, mama,’ then kissed my face with her little hands. It’s become our morning ritual, and honestly, it’s the best way to start the day. I told her how much her grandmother would have adored her, and she kissed me again. Then, she and my dad walked to breakfast together, playing like they’ve known each other for lifetimes.

Seeing my dad interact with my children brings me incredible happiness – the kind that makes you grin from ear to ear. It feels surreal, like watching a beautiful scene from a movie, but even better than any film could be. It made me realize how grateful I am for my mom, because this wouldn’t be possible without her.

I’ve always admired Carrie Fisher’s portrayal of Leia. She wasn’t just a female character, she completely broke the mold. She was a total badass – a powerful warrior who only grew stronger, and a real inspiration for the rebellion. Even though I didn’t love everything they did with her in the later movies, Leia’s impact on the series and on fans like me is undeniable. She’s a true legend.
