Bill Nighy will next be seen leading the cast of A Town in Nova Scotia. Although the title suggests a Canadian setting, the film is actually a drama set in Liverpool, following the life of an elderly man named Leon who lives in public housing in Wirral.
The story centers around a man who recently lost his wife and whose daughter, Anna, has moved to Canada. He now relies on his longtime friend and former colleague, Saleh – a man of similar age who also lives alone in the same building – for companionship, according to a synopsis from the Wirral Globe.
Leon and Saleh have been close friends for many years, but Leon is struggling to discuss a difficult topic with him. Leon’s daughter, Anna, has asked him to move to Nova Scotia and live with her family, and he’s finding it hard to talk to Saleh about whether or not to make such a big change.

Makram Khoury, from Munich, is acting alongside Bill Nighy for the first time, portraying his close friend Saleh. They began filming in Liverpool last month, and the movie’s release date hasn’t been set yet.
Bill Nighy recently starred with Imelda Staunton and George MacKay in the drama & Sons, directed by Pablo Trapero. The film debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival’s 50th anniversary celebration in September.
The movie is based on David Gilbert’s 2013 novel and features a strong supporting cast with actors like Johnny Flynn, Noah Jupe, Dominic West, and Arthur Conti. Sarah Polley, the Academy Award-winning filmmaker behind Women Talking, wrote the screenplay.
Andrew Dyer (Nighy) hasn’t written anything or left his home in 20 years. During that time, he had a child with someone other than his wife, his wife sadly passed away, and he’s become distant from his other sons, according to a summary of the story.
After a close friend passed away, Andrew became acutely aware of his own mortality, a feeling made worse by his drinking. This led him to gather all of his children together, knowing it would probably be their only chance.
Although release dates in the UK haven’t been announced for those films, Bill Nighy is currently in cinemas starring in the action-thriller Shelter, alongside Jason Statham, Naomi Ackie, and Daniel Mays.
A Town in Nova Scotia has no release date.
