Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty reveals plans for season three and whether the series will differ from the book – after Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon confirmed they’ll be back

The original book’s writer, who created the captivating drama, mentioned that she’s currently crafting a follow-up novel for the series – however, she’s not planning for the storyline to strictly adhere to her specific plot.
57-year-old Australian author reveals that they are penning a new book, as shared in this week’s edition of Stellar Magazine.
She went on saying, “I’m really enjoying myself with it, and once I grab my book, there won’t be any issues – feel free to make any changes they see fit.”
As a writer with years of hard work poured into my books, I understand the attachment readers feel towards them. However, let me clarify one thing – nobody can alter or tamper with my work because it exists in its own unique form, a product of my life experiences and creativity. My book is a reflection of who I am as an author, and any attempt to change it would be like trying to rewrite my personal history.
As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t help but share that I was drawn back into the world of this captivating series, thanks in large part to the magnetic pull of its stellar cast, particularly the radiant Nicole Kidman, who played a pivotal role in my return.
Nicole, along with everyone else, really set the stage for season three, and I found it fitting because that’s when the kids began school. Now, ten years later, they’re in high school, providing a wealth of new content, as she put it.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: Meryl Streep might be joining the dynamic duo of Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon for another installment of Big Little Lies! It seems they are speeding things up, moving swiftly towards bringing season three to life.
Initially intended as a single-season miniseries on HBO, its unprecedented popularity among viewers and critics led to a second season, and now plans for a third are underway.
Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman were not only actors but also producers for the show that explores the secrets and dramas hidden beneath the glamorous facade of a select group of affluent moms living in the upscale community of Monterey, California.

In simpler terms, the actress from Moulin Rouge has a daughter named Faith who is 13 years old, and she also shares Sundays with her second spouse, renowned country musician Keith Urban.
In addition, she is the mother of two adult kids – Isabella (known as Bella), aged 31, and Connor, who is 29 years old. These children were adopted by her when she was married to Tom Cruise.
On Sunday, according to Nicole, was the one who finished watching both series and exclaimed, “There’s absolutely no doubt about it, a third installment is necessary!”
The teen took an evenhanded view of on one of the main plot threads of season two – the tempestuous relationship between Nicole’s character Celeste and her mother-in-law Mary Louise, played by Meryl Streep.
Nicole remembered: “Mary Louise said something like, ‘Celeste isn’t handling the second one well. What on earth is she up to?’ I can understand her perspective.”
During our chat, Nicole clarified their reasons for delaying the return of the series since the second season was released as far back as 2019.
The actress from “To Die For” explained that while the richness of the storylines was something we had often talked about, there was a need for time due to the incredible depth in the upcoming chapter of these women’s lives and their children’s lives. As children grow up, this journey becomes particularly intriguing.
For Nicole, one of the added benefits of this specific project is that she developed true friendships with her fellow actors.
As a devoted fan, I was thrilled to witness an exceptional ensemble in this show, with Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgard, Shailene Woodley, Zoe Kravitz, and Adam Scott gracing the screen.

The Moulin Rouge! star mused that if everyone is spread out without ever intersecting, things are significantly distinct.
However, when everyone is deeply connected and eager, that’s what makes it feasible, as there’s a mutual desire to spend time with each other.
In November, it was verified that arrangements were set for a third season of Big Little Lies, as Nicole made this announcement during her stage appearance at the CME Group Tour Championship held in Florida on a Friday.
She shared that she deeply enjoyed ‘Big Little Lies’ because it happened to debut at a significant point in her life – when she was raising her kids and contemplating retirement. Remarkably, this project came together just as she and Reese Witherspoon had the opportunity to produce the series.
