Big Brother’s best bits! From the iconic Nasty Nick and late Nikki Grahame to THAT hot tub scene – the show’s most memorable moments as it marks its 25th anniversary
Ever since the debut of Big Brother on our screens back in 2000, I’ve been hooked! This groundbreaking series has kept me gripped for a whopping 25 years, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of millions in the UK and earning its place as an all-time favorite.
At that time, the idea of contestants living in a house under constant surveillance for 24 hours a day on TV was considered puzzling or perplexing. It was seen as TV’s first social experiment.
The title of the show draws inspiration from the well-known phrase “Big Brother is watching” by George Orwell, featured in his novel ‘1984’, where the actions of participants are constantly monitored through daily broadcasts and live feeds.
At the dawn of the new millennium, Big Brother made its debut on Channel 4, with Davina McCall as the host. Right from the start, it quickly captured viewers’ attention and soared in popularity.
Although Big Brother was widely popular, it faced declining ratings and budget reductions, causing Channel 4 to cancel the show in 2010. However, Channel 5 soon bought the rights for the program the next year, with Brian Dowling hosting initially before Emma Willis took over in 2013.
Despite being canceled for a second time in 2018, the show was reintroduced once more in 2023 by ITV, with AJ Odudu and Will Best serving as co-hosts.
Known for its sensational and occasionally shocking incidents, Big Brother has been the stage for some of the most outrageous episodes ever broadcast on British television, even featuring an appearance by Pamela Anderson.
Here are some memorable moments from Big Brother, including Nasty Nick and Nikki Grahame’s famous “Who is she?” argument and the heated encounter between Anthony Hutton and Makosi Musambasi in the hot tub – these are just a few of the most exciting scenes as Big Brother celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Nasty Nick – Series One (2000)
Audience members found themselves utterly captivated during the premiere season, as the actions of resident Nick Bateman proved to be the most astonishing among the housemates.
In the game, the city broker became known as “Tough Tony” due to his actions trying to deceive others by sharing secret notes with contestants, influencing their decisions about who should be nominated.
Craig Phillips, eventually victorious, assembled everyone at the kitchen table to talk about Nick’s notes after facing him.
‘How can you be so two faced?’ Craig asked him. ‘I know it’s true, you know it’s true.’
On the unfortunate turn of events, Nick got kicked out of the house on day thirty-five due to his rule violations regarding nominations, while Craig ended up winning the entire show.
As a die-hard follower, I can’t help but notice that this story has been splashed across the front pages of virtually every national newspaper, save for the Financial Times where it was relegated to page three.
Fight Night – Series Five (2004)

In the fifth season, Big Brother ventured beyond traditional boundaries with its innovative idea and continuous 24/7 broadcasting; yet, many viewers felt it crossed a line.
The series featured a host of shocking moments, yet none more so than Fight Night.
In the fifth season, Emma Greenwood and Michelle Bass returned to the house following a mistaken eviction that sent them to “The Bedsit.” There, they quietly listened as their fellow housemates discussed them from afar.
Upon their return, the house became embroiled in a food fight.
During a heated dispute, the victor, Nadia Almada from Ribeira Brava, Madeira, Portugal, struck Jason Cowan with a slap.
Following the altercation, Emma and Victor Ebuwa exchanged tray-throwing, leading to their separation as she yelled, “I’ll brutally harm you!” or “I’ll severely injure you!”.
As the altercation began, BB positioned guards along the camera corridors. As the disturbing events intensified, guards were dispatched into the residence through the bedroom, where they remained posted while the celebrities slumbered.
Or
During the skirmish’s outbreak, BB stationed guards at the camera pathways. As the shocking incidents heightened, guards were deployed into the dwelling via the bedroom, staying put while the stars were asleep.
As a consequence Emma was removed the next day and Victor was made to see a psychologist.
All housemates bar four were given warnings by Big Brother.
Makosi Hot Tub – Series Six (2005)

In a fun, alcohol-fueled evening, Anthony Hutton, the winner, and his co-star Makosi Musambasi were seen swimming and interacting in a suggestive manner in the pool.
Forty-eight hours following the time when Makosi asserted that she was carrying Anthony’s baby, he had previously sworn that they hadn’t engaged in sexual activity together.
Following her departure from home, Makosi, a nurse by profession, asserted her conviction that she was expecting, yet she encountered shouts of “liar” from the crowd during the finale.
In the sixth season of Big Brother, Makosi finished in third position. However, upon leaving the house, she faced visa challenges because she was only permitted to reside in the UK while employed by the National Health Service (NHS).
In 2010, she went back to England to take part in Ultimate Big Brother, which later shifted to Channel 5. The audience voted her out of the house on the eleventh day.
In 2012, it was said that she was expelled from Britain and barred from re-entry following an attempt to gain access by utilizing a family member’s passport instead of her own.
The wine bottle incident – Series Six (2005)

Things took an X-rated turn during Big Brother six thanks to eccentric housemate Kinga Karolczak.
Later in the series, Kinga unexpectedly arrived home quite late, contributing to one of the most startling scenes ever seen on the show.
A woman who is both Polish and Kuwaiti, residing in London, and working in market research, shocked viewers with her shocking act of using a wine bottle as a personal device, openly displayed in the shared community garden.
Following a night of drinking with roommates Anthony Hutton and Craig Coates, the curvaceous woman confided in her companions that she intended to use an empty wine bottle for self-gratification.
During her farewell conversation with talk-show host Davina McCall, Kinga emphasized that the entire incident was just a jest and she had been feigning all along.
Nikki Graeme’s ‘Who Is She?’ – Series Seven (2006)

Known as one of the standout seasons in the show’s timeline, Big Brother 7 is notable for introducing viewers to Nikki Grahame.
A person from Hertfordshire gained notoriety for throwing fits in response to innocuous circumstances, like being asked to rise from bed or struggling with the functioning of a pair of headphones.
During a particularly noteworthy instance, Nikki boldly marched into the private room known as the diary room and vocalized her annoyance towards the newly arrived housemate, Susie Verrico.
Nikki angrily exclaimed to Big Brother: “I’m feeling incredibly bitter and furious. It’s unbelievable that she voted for me, when she doesn’t even know me. What on earth have I done wrong?… She just strutted in wearing a golden dress and kicked me out without warning, and it’s not right!
‘Who is she? Who is she? Who is she? Where did you find her?’ And reality TV history was made.
Nikki tragically passed away in 2021 after a battle with anorexia nervosa.
Pammy’s Cameo – Series 12 (2011)

2011 found both roommates and spectators equally amazed upon entering their shared dwelling, as they encountered none other than Pamela Anderson residing there.
As the 14 new residents became familiar with each other and their new environment, the windows were opened, revealing the garden to the contestants.
Yet, upon approaching the entrance, they found Pamela Anderson, the Baywatch actress, seated outside, exuding charm in a stylish, form-fitting red gown.
Initially, the residents were puzzled about the situation, but then suddenly realized who it was when someone exclaimed, “Oh my goodness, that’s Pamela Anderson!
She remained in the house and set tasks for the housemates throughout.
In 2008, I stepped foot into the Big Brother house for the very first time, participating in the Australian edition of the series for a thrilling three-day stint.
In the following two years, she appeared on the Indian adaptation of the program. Then, in the year 2011, she was featured on the British version. Subsequently, she made appearances on the Bulgarian show in 2012 and the German version in 2013.
Sofa Foreplay – Series 17 (2016)

Previously known housemate Laura Carter once asserted she had romantic encounters with Justin Bieber. She regained public attention during the summer after a passionate display with Marco Pierre White Jr., which was captured on screen.
The pair attracted an enormous amount of complaints to Ofcom for their explicit actions, which included Marco biting her nipple prior to their sexual encounter on the show.
Audience members found it offensive when they witnessed an intimate moment unfold on the couch, where Laura was caught raising her shirt while Marco Jnr was seen sucking on her exposed breast.
In the thrilling conclusion, I found myself utterly captivated as the duo delved deeper, their movements becoming more intense and passionate, hinting at an escalation of their relationship.
Regarding our encounter, Laura mentioned: “It wasn’t completely intimate, but we were intimate in essence. Immediately following the incident, he exclaimed: ‘Oh my goodness! How will my family and fiancee react?’
‘I was like mate; you can’t say this now. I think he feels guilty.’
