Big Brother star reveals the surprising amount he was paid to go on the reality show
As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for behind-the-scenes insights, I must say that Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald’s revelation about his Big Brother paycheck is quite an enlightening tidbit. It’s fascinating to see how the world of reality TV has evolved since its inception, and the stark contrast between then and now couldn’t be more apparent.
He is best known as one third of Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie show.
However, Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald gained widespread recognition when he appeared on the Big Brother show from Channel 10 in the year 2004.
During an appearance on his Nova Breakfast Show on Tuesday, Fitzy, aged 42, disclosed the unexpected figure he received as payment for appearing on the reality show that stirred controversy at the time.
During his stint on the highly-rated show, the radio host clarified that the cast was not earning substantial amounts of money as had been speculated.
‘A lot of people thought that we got paid a motza when we were on Big Brother,’ Ryan revealed.
‘It was $100 a day.’
Despite appearing small, even considering the year 2004’s standards, Ryan mentioned that he didn’t mind receiving such a salary because his expenses were minimal while participating in the reality show.
‘This is the thing,’ Ryan added.
Spending that amount of money for such a long period (three months) makes it feel like an extended duration, given that you haven’t been utilizing it for anything.
‘It’s a good little whack when you get out.’
Ryan mentioned that although he came in fourth during the fourth season, losing to winner Trevor Butler and runners-up Bree Amer and Paul Dyer, he was offered some extra perks as compensation for his relatively small prize money.
In the year 2004, during my stint on Big Brother, though I didn’t win, I managed to secure a Mitsubishi Lancer, a vacation to New Caledonia, and possibly a TAG Heuer watch, which I believe is still tucked away somewhere.
Ryan’s fellow host, Michael ‘Wippa’ Wipfli, mentioned that he believed the financial rewards from reality shows had significantly decreased over time.

‘I would have thought you used to get paid more,’ he said.
As time marches on and resources become more scarce, I couldn’t help but notice that an increasing number of individuals seem to grasp this golden opportunity. Social media, I believe, plays a significant role in fueling this trend as well. The thought that crosses many minds nowadays is: “Why not build a massive audience?
‘So this payoff, you’re not getting a lot of money for the show, but this payoff afterwards.’
Ryan mentioned that although his bank account might suggest otherwise, he didn’t have a single moment of regret for participating in the reality show. It turned out to be less demanding than many other shows he had encountered.
‘Big Brother was the best because It was a show that you didn’t really have to do much,’ he said.

I’m referring to TV programs such as MasterChef and Survivor currently. The tough challenges you need to face.
Ryan’s confession followed an exclusive report from Daily Mail Australia, which claimed that the cast of Channel Seven’s reality show Made in Bondi earn around $70 per day.
According to the source, it’s even more surprising to learn about the salaries of the actors on Made In Bondi compared to their show’s plotlines.
‘The core cast are on minimum wage, and I was told that some of the cast were on $70 a day.’
It was reported that one of the participants’ parents had significant concerns about the impact of the show on their high-society status, as the relatively small paycheck didn’t help ease their worries.
The source continued, “If he took up busboy work, he could earn more. Yet, it seems too risky for the potential damage to the family’s standing.
