Big Brother star reveals shock details about devastating house fire

Mike Goldman, known for his voice-overs in the Big Brother series, has finally spoken up about the heartbreaking incident involving a fire that severely damaged his house approximately two months ago.

52-year-old Goldman was soundly asleep alongside his wife, Bianca Zouppas-Goldman, and their one-year-old child, Jagger, when the fire swept through their two-story residence in Brisbane.

He now says he and his family survived because of a basic home safety device.

In a recent conversation with the Courier-Mail, I expressed my gratitude for the smoke alarm that saved my life. If that vital device hadn’t sounded its warning, I wouldn’t be here today to share this story. I owe my existence to its unwavering vigilance.

Goldman is openly discussing his harrowing encounter following his acceptance as an ambassador for Checktember, a newly launched nationwide initiative promoting smoke alarm safety.

Goldman emphasized the importance of treating Checktember with care: ensure you test your alarms, and guarantee that all systems are linked for comprehensive protection across your entire household.

He added that he now lives with the side effects of his ordeal.

He mentioned that he’s been waking up during the night lately and currently seems to sleep very lightly. Previously, he didn’t have this issue with his sleep.

At times, I find myself awakening with thoughts of possible smoke, a scent that seems suspicious. But then I remind myself to stay calm.

Goldman shares that he’s been using magnesium supplements before going to sleep as a means to promote relaxation.

Elsewhere in the chat, he shared more details of the night that destroyed his home.

The event was incredibly profound. It’s as if a small voice at the back of your head whispers, “Wow, just a few weeks ago, I nearly encountered a fire that potentially could have claimed my life and possibly extinguished my family.

I noticed the smoke alarm going off. Initially, I assumed it was just the batteries needing a change, but then I detected the sound of fire and saw smoke billowing, and suddenly the lights stopped working too.

Goldman added that he does not know what caused the blaze, and his house was insured.

Goldman gained widespread recognition around the year 2000, earning fame for his role as the well-known host of Big Brother Australia.

From 2001 to 2014, he was involved with the program, where he hosted his own late-night offshoot titled “Up Late,” and also helped out during live eliminations.

After his stint on Big Brother, he’s made appearances in the Tiger King-inspired show, “Joe vs. Carole,” which airs on Stan Originals, as well as NBC Universal’s “Young Rock.

Goldman met his wife in an acting class in 2016, with the pair tying the knot in 2019.

They welcomed their first child, Jagger, in May 2024.
