Marcus Akin, a former “Big Brother” contestant, is appealing to fans for financial aid amounting to £3,500 due to the fact that he’s been using his entire savings on personal medical expenses.
Previously, a 51-year-old former television personality, known for spending 13 weeks in the show’s tenth season, used to work as a window installer and resided with his mother. Later, he made his way into the well-known residence.
After being kicked out of the house in August 2009, this former reality star turned actor appeared in two zombie films titled “Zombie Hood” and “Zombies From Ireland.
Now, this TV personality from Channel 4 has turned to the crowdfunding site GoFundMe to ask fans for assistance in reaching £3,500, which he referred to as a ‘social experiment’.
He started by saying, “Hi everyone! Let’s dive straight in. I’ve decided to take action since there seems to be no other feasible way for me to complete these tasks.
Allow me to explain in a step-by-step manner, as there are multiple aspects involved. Primarily, my focus is on acquiring funds to cover the costs of personal healthcare services. I’ll delve deeper into this topic at a later time.

Currently, I feel drained and disheartened, as my efforts seem to amount to nothing. I tire of the burden of taxes that seem to leave me financially strapped.
Feeling frustrated that it seems like unscrupulous individuals, particularly those in politics, are living comfortably while myself and many around me face hardships.
I noticed on social media that someone asked for just £1 through a crowdfunding campaign and it became extremely popular. I’m following suit, but my request has a unique twist to it.
He went on to share some personal details. Specifically, he mentioned that he is currently 51 years old and believes he may be approaching the final stages of his professional career.
I’m unfortunate to have multiple health issues, and unfortunately, the NHS seems unwilling or unable to provide assistance. My health problems are numerous and seem endless, similar to items on a long laundry list.
Marcus mentioned that he’s currently dealing with several health issues, including sciatica, a second-degree hernia, and two deteriorated discs in his lower back.
For more than seven years, the ex-celebrity mentioned, “I’ve been patiently awaiting a turn for the real therapy (surgery as opposed to ineffective injections).
In the context of this experiment, it appears that the administrators responsible for the NHS are not considering me eligible for the necessary treatment at this time.

It seems highly unlikely under the present circumstances that I would qualify for any assistance if I’m unable to work, and frankly, it’s just not in my nature to ask.
I would utilize any funds raised towards covering the costs of my personal surgeries, as these aren’t inexpensive. The primary operations amount to approximately £37,000, yet additional expenses are expected for unspecified treatments.
Even though I’ve been dealing with health issues, I’ve only needed to take time away from work during my surgical procedures. In 2024, it was lumbar injections, but unfortunately, they didn’t prove effective. Last Christmas, I had a gastronemeus release.
Marcus went on to disclose: “I’ve already shelled out more than £10,000 for personal treatments and medical devices recommended by a doctor, which seem to be fraudulent schemes intended to make the NHS cut costs.
Later, he clarified that he intends to transition to a private practice since he believes there’s not much left to salvage, and he elaborated on his nine-year history of assisting those in need.
Lastly, it may appear that I have disdain for the NHS, but that’s not true. Instead, what I despise is the callous upper management who hoard funds while the dedicated medical professionals – the genuine heroes – should be receiving them.
‘Thank you everyone. Let’s see where this goes,’ he finished his emotional message.’
