Caroline, a contestant on Big Brother, received an official warning for using offensive language after making transphobic remarks to another housemate, Zelah.
Tuesday’s episode of the game show took a troubling turn when contestant Caroline, a 56-year-old music publicist, made hurtful and prejudiced comments about transgender people during a game of spin the bottle.
After a bottle hit Nancy, Caroline jokingly asked a provocative question: ‘If you were stranded on a desert island with just one person from the House, and the goal was to repopulate, who would you choose?’
Nancy, who is pansexual, answered that she is most attracted to Zelah, who is a transgender man.
Oh my god, it was awful! Caroline just *exploded* out of her chair and blurted out, ‘She’s a girl!’ right at Zelah. And then, it got worse! She followed it up with, ‘But you haven’t got a willy. Is that really bad?’ I honestly couldn’t believe what I was hearing. It was just… shocking and completely inappropriate. I’m still reeling from it, honestly. It felt so invasive and just… wrong. I can’t stop thinking about how hurtful that must have been for Zelah.
The next day, Big Brother called Caroline into the Diary Room to scold her for language and behavior they considered offensive and unacceptable. They gave her a formal warning, stating that any similar comments could lead to her removal from the house.

People watching were upset by what happened, with one viewer saying it was heartbreaking for Zelah and that Caroline’s actions deserved a stronger punishment than just a warning.
‘She should be removed for that. Blatant transphobia dressed up as ignorance. Absolutely VILE,’;
You know, as someone who observes people and dynamics a lot, I’ve noticed a really disheartening pattern. I see this young man, Zelah, constantly holding back, censoring himself because he’s afraid of being labeled ‘aggressive’ simply for asserting himself – and it’s heartbreaking. It’s a tough spot to be in, because he absolutely *has* the right to stand up for himself, but fears the consequences of doing so because of who he is. It’s a real shame he feels he can’t fully express himself without facing unfair judgment.
‘Caroline is a nasty piece of work. It only took one drink for her to show her true colours,’;
‘Caroline should surely be removed for that comment….’
Oh my gosh, I was *mortified* for Caroline! I was glued to the screens, watching Big Brother replay the whole thing – every single word! And poor Caroline? She just buried her face in her hands. It was so awkward, but I couldn’t look away! I felt so bad for her, but honestly, it was amazing television!
Big Brother reminded Caroline that she had been informed of the rules about acceptable language and behavior before entering the house.
‘Yesterday at 11:21pm during a game of spin of the bottle, you had the following conversations.

Caroline, you asked Nancy a highly inappropriate and graphic question. You essentially asked her, imagining they were stranded on a desert island with only one person remaining, who she would choose to have a child with to repopulate civilization.
Nancy asked if the person they were discussing had to be male. Jenny clarified that the person is pansexual. Caroline then asked, “Is she pansexual? Do you like people who are pansexual?”
Zelah suggested asking her who she finds most attractive. Caroline responded that she wasn’t aware that was an option.
Big Brother continued, explaining that Nancy responded with “Zelah.” Caroline then told Zelah, “You’re a girl. No, you’re not.” Teja called out, “Caroline!”
Caroline said, “But you don’t have a penis. Is that a problem? Oh, I’m so sorry, Z. Was that wrong to say? That was bad, wasn’t it? Oh no, I’ve really messed up. Is that bad?”
After reading out the full conversation, Big Brother said: ‘Caroline, can you look at Big Brother?’
Caroline said ‘No. I’m ashamed. Oh God. It’s worse than I thought.’
Honestly, Big Brother pulled me aside and let me know I’d really crossed a line with some of the things I said. They explained that my language was offensive and completely unacceptable, and they simply can’t allow anyone to speak in a way that might upset the other housemates or people watching at home. It was a firm but fair talking-to, and I definitely understood where they were coming from.
“Okay,” said Caroline. Big Brother then stated, “Because of this, you’re receiving a formal warning. Caroline, if you use similar language or behave this way again, it could result in you being removed from the house.”
Big Brother then asked: ‘Is there anything you’d like to say?’
Caroline apologized, saying she was deeply sorry for what she’d said. She admitted it was awful and couldn’t explain why she’d said it, offering no justification for her words.
I sincerely apologize to everyone affected. I understand my actions have caused disappointment, and I want to express my deepest regrets to all.
I was incredibly happy, but now I’ve messed everything up and I don’t know how to fix it.
