As a dedicated follower of Julia Rangiheuea’s journey, I can’t help but be moved by her courage and resilience. Her story is one that resonates deeply with me, as I too have battled addiction and know firsthand the challenges it presents.

Julia Rangiheuea shares heart-wrenching accounts of her battles against substance abuse, specifically drugs and alcohol.

Originally known as the star of Big Brother Australia at age 31, she’s shared insights into her prolonged struggle with addiction that began during her teenage years.

In a recent open conversation, Julia shared her story about experimenting with alcohol at age 14 during her ninth year in school, and by the following year, she found herself trying ecstasy for the first time.

Following her relocation to Sydney at age 20, Julia subsequently started using cocaine. She later reminisced about the significant sums of money she squandered on both drugs and alcohol during the subsequent years.

Previously, Julia made the choice to stop drinking alcohol, and she’s preparing to celebrate a year without it as a remarkable accomplishment.

Concerning her choice to abstain from alcohol, she shared with Perth Now: “I simply acknowledged that my entire character revolves around it.

‘I don’t know who I am without alcohol, I’m going to give up alcohol for one year.’

In my twenties, I indulged in too many wild nights out, splurging a staggering amount of my hard-earned cash on booze and recreational substances. Looking back now, I can’t help but feel that those years were, to some extent, a waste.

She admitted, “I was clueless about what I was getting into, and every social gathering seemed to revolve around alcohol.

In simpler terms, if I earn $1000 a week, I would spend around $400 on rent, and immediately set aside $200 for alcohol expenses.

‘And then I’d think, Susie’s birthday is coming up. I need to get a bag [of cocaine] for that.’

Following a year of abstinence, Julia currently boasts an impressive follower count of 45.2K on her “Party Girl in Recovery” TikTok profile. Here, she openly discusses her struggles with addiction and journey towards sobriety.

In October, she additionally began hosting the “Soberly Speaking” podcast, providing a platform for everyday individuals to openly discuss their personal struggles with addiction.

The podcast primarily explores tales of recuperation, giving listeners a chance to hear individuals discuss their journeys towards abstinence.

Julia, who gained notoriety by joining the Big Brother house unannounced in 2022, has discussed her past reputation as a ‘social butterfly’ while growing up in Perth.

In a recent interview, she described herself as being well-known for her lively party spirit and fondness for social drinking.

My notable traits were widely admired, shaping my character significantly. In fact, people who didn’t know me would approach me and comment, “I’ve heard you’re quite lively in company.” (This version avoids using explicit language.)

She mentioned that Perth, being a coastal city, had a vibrant social scene where drinking was deeply ingrained in the local culture during her childhood years.

She said the lifestyle ‘normalised’ heavy drinking, including partying mid-week followed by ‘drinking all weekend’.

Julia mentioned that she often drank as much as two large pitchers of cider during her dinners on regular weeknights.

Overindulging in alcohol caused the social media celebrity to experience prolonged bouts of severe anxiety, following recurrent headaches and hangovers.

She would spend entire days in bed trying to recover from excessive partying.

Following her decision to abstain from alcohol in January 2023, Julia admitted that maintaining sobriety has proven to be quite difficult, yet she finds herself content without alcohol.
