Reggie Bird is responding to online bullies who are falsely claiming she’s pretending to be blind. The winner of Big Brother Australia two times has denied the accusations.
A 51-year-old mother of two, who has a progressive eye condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa that has no cure, responded strongly to negative comments on social media, telling her followers that some people simply can’t be reasoned with.
Oh my gosh, you guys, Reggie just shared about her vision! It turns out she’s legally blind, which explains why things are a little blurry for her. She was so brave to talk about it, and honestly, it just makes me adore her even more knowing she deals with limited vision and still does everything she does!
After sharing screenshots of hateful comments, the former reality TV star explained that ‘blindness exists on a spectrum’.
She went on to say how frustrating it is that people are so quick to judge. She’s particularly hurt by the constant accusations that she’s pretending to be blind.
I truly wish I didn’t have Retinitis Pigmentosa, but I try to stay positive and enjoy life to the fullest every day. I focus on making the most of each moment and living as actively as possible.

It’s becoming clear that some people just won’t understand, no matter how much we educate them about blindness, vision loss, and disabilities.
Reggie made the post after a follower asked her, ‘So you’re not going blind?’
Another person replied: ‘That’s what I was thinking, all talk was that she was nearly blind.’
But Reggie’s fans quickly responded to the negative comment, with one person telling the commenter to act more maturely.
One person commented on how surprisingly unintelligent the online hecklers seemed, and another advised Reggie to simply ignore the hurtful comments.
Meanwhile, another praised Reggie for the brave way she was dealing with the condition.
Why do some people dismiss you? Is it because you’re enjoying life and having a good time? It’s as if they’re offended by your happiness!
Reggie responded: ‘Yes, because I live life, I cop this s**t non-stop!’

This popular personality has faced online harassment since sharing her health condition more than ten years ago.
In a 2022 interview with TV Week, she responded to accusations that she was pretending to be blind, asking, ‘Why would anyone deliberately fake blindness?’
The ex-manager of the fish and chip shop, who previously said she felt limited in her perspective, also explained, ‘People don’t understand what I’m going through or the difficulties I face daily.’
Reggie captured the nation’s hearts when she won Channel Ten’s Big Brother the first time in 2003.
She previously spoke about her battle with Retinitis Pigmentosa on Seven’s The Daily Edition.
She explained that she’s lost most of her sight, with only about 10 degrees of central vision remaining, and is completely unable to see in the dark.
Reggie gained attention again in 2022 when she competed on the revived season of Big Brother, which aired on Channel Seven. She ultimately won the competition, becoming the first person to win the show twice.
