Big Bang Theory star joins returning Netflix series

As a dedicated fan of both true crime stories and exceptional acting performances, I am beyond thrilled about Laurie Metcalf joining the third season of “Monster” on Netflix! Her versatility and talent have graced our screens for decades, from her iconic role as Jackie Harris in “The Big Bang Theory” to her award-winning performance in “Lady Bird.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to share that the brilliant actress from The Big Bang Theory, none other than Laurie Metcalf, is set to grace the screens in the third season of Netflix’s chilling true crime anthology series, Monster.

Acting within the upcoming season, you’ll find the familiar face from “The Conners” and “Lady Bird,” along with other fresh talents. The narrative this time revolves around the criminal exploits of serial killer Ed Gein, portrayed by Charlie Hunnam.

In a different role, Metcalf is set to depict Gein’s mother, while the actor known for “The White Lotus,” Tom Hollander, has been chosen for the part of famous director Alfred Hitchcock. Meanwhile, “The Crown” star Olivia Williams will take on the role of his wife Alma.

Edward Gein, famously referred to as the ‘Graveyard Ripper of Plainfield’, first came into public infamy during the late 1950s. This was when authorities uncovered evidence suggesting he had been digging up bodies from the local cemetery in Plainfield, Wisconsin, and horrifyingly, human remains were discovered on his premises.

Back in the ’50s and ’60s, I admitted to taking the lives of Mary Hogan in ’54 and Bernice Worden in ’57. People suspected that I was responsible for even more murders. Gein was put on trial for Worden’s murder in ’68 only after it was determined I wasn’t fit to stand trial initially.

It’s quite possible that Alfred Hitchcock makes an appearance within the story, given his role as an apparent source of inspiration for the character of Norman Bates in the movie Psycho, along with several other chilling film characters portraying serial killers.

In the year 2022, the series titled “Monster” made its premiere. Its initial season delved into the life of Jeffrey Dahmer, a notorious serial killer who claimed the lives of 17 boys and men during the late ’70s up until the early ’90s.

The show was quickly extended for an additional two seasons, with each season featuring tales about other fearsome entities that have shaped society.

A new installment came out recently, focusing on the tale of Lyle and Erik Menéndez – two individuals convicted in 1996 for the first-degree murder of their parents, Jose and Mary Louise ‘Kitty’ Menéndez.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story and The Jeffrey Dahmer Story are streaming now on Netflix.
