Beyond Paradise Christmas special teases a first for Humphrey and Martha
As a seasoned gamer of all things British TV, I must say that the upcoming Beyond Paradise Christmas special has me all aflutter! Having grown up watching the adventures of DCI Jack Mooney and his team on Death in Paradise, I’ve been eagerly anticipating a spin-off that delves into the personal lives of these beloved characters.
The BBC has released an exclusive clip from the upcoming Beyond Paradise Christmas special.
The video offers a glimpse of the joyous celebrations taking place between Humphrey (Kris Marshall) and Martha (Sally Bretton), as they mark a fresh start in their lives as new foster parents.
As Humphrey steps out of the house carrying a platter of sausage rolls dusted generously with nutmeg, Martha is busy perfecting the holiday decorations outside. Following a chuckle over one of Humphrey’s kitchen misadventures, Martha voices her concerns about their first foster placement arriving during Christmas.
As I gaze at the newly lit ceiling, I can’t help but hope for everything to be just right, you know? Humphrey tries to ease my worries with a confident, “It is,” but then the fire alarm starts beeping – a grim reminder that I’d forgotten to turn off the oven. It seems like even Beyond Paradise might not have a trouble-free journey ahead.
According to the BBC’s press kit, it was disclosed that the teenager, Jaiden (Austin Taylor), who the couple will be welcoming this Christmas, tends to prefer solitude.
As a novice foster parent, I’ve only had experience with caring for a much younger kid up until now. This time around, it promises to be quite the adventure, given my lack of experience with an older foster child.
According to the information provided through the press kit, Marshall mentioned that so far, Humphrey and Martha only had a temporary foster child named Ryan, who was playful, active, and manageable for caretaking. However, this arrangement wasn’t intended to be long-term.
As a gamer navigating through levels, every character I meet is distinct, each with their own quirks and difficulties. Every new stage presents unexpected obstacles, but my trusty sidekicks, Martha and Humphrey, are always by my side to conquer them together. This game of life is an emotional roller coaster, but we face it head-on.
He added: “While Humphrey is supportive and involved, most of the parenting tends to fall on Martha’s shoulders but Humphrey does find the whole fostering experience deeply rewarding.”
Away from his personal life, Humphrey is assigned an unusual case involving ghostly activities. Following the death of her spouse, a resident of Shipton Abbott starts experiencing visions of his deceased wife. It falls upon Humphrey and Esther (played by Zahra Ahmadi) to uncover a logical reason behind this apparent supernatural occurrence.
Beyond Paradise, Death in Paradise and Return to Paradise air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
