To address this gap, we propose the AI Relationship Process (AI-RP) framework, which conceptualizes relationship formation as a sequential process driven by communicative behavior. The AI-RP outlines how chatbot characteristics shape user perceptions, influencing communication patterns that ultimately produce relational outcomes like attachment and companionship. By foregrounding observable interaction, can this framework provide a robust foundation for understanding the social and ethical implications of increasingly intimate AI companionship?
