Beyoncé is celebrating Christmas Day with a ‘Cowboy Carter’ NFL halftime show via Netflix
As a lifelong Beyoncé fan and a die-hard NFL enthusiast, this Christmas Day announcement has me absolutely thrilled! Growing up in Houston, I’ve always been proud of our homegrown queen, and watching her perform on the biggest stages has been an unparalleled joy. The idea of experiencing her live renditions from “Cowboy Carter” in my hometown, during an NFL halftime show no less, is nothing short of a dream come true.
Instead of a music video or visual album release, it’s a monumental gift akin to Beyoncé herself: On Christmas Day, Beyoncé is set to deliver a live NFL halftime performance in Houston, which will be streamed on Netflix.
The artist famous for “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” is teaming up with a streamer to present their very first NFL Christmas game live broadcast, which will occur during the second of this year’s scheduled NFL games on Christmas. This performance will take place in her hometown as the Houston Texans face off against the Baltimore Ravens at NRG Stadium.
The live show will mark Beyoncé’s debut performance of songs from her groundbreaking “Cowboy Carter” album. She unveiled the album during the 2024 Super Bowl advertisement in February, and it recently received a record-setting 11 Grammy Award nominations, making it the most nominated album by any female artist.
While specifics about the show are scarce, it’s anticipated that Beyoncé will have some high-profile guests from “Cowboy Carter,” a series known for showcasing influential artists in country music, pop, and R&B genres.
Beyoncé has played at two Super Bowls, serving as the main act for the halftime show in New Orleans back in 2013. At that time, her fellow Destiny’s Child members, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, also joined her on stage. Additionally, she shared the global spotlight with Coldplay and Bruno Mars when they headlined Super Bowl L, which took place in Santa Clara in 2016.
Netflix has been advancing its live-entertainment content, even streaming a boxing match this weekend between former YouTuber Jake Paul and seasoned fighter Mike Tyson that was viewed by over 60 million households. However, the viewing experience wasn’t optimal as many viewers faced buffering problems and feed availability issues.
This year, the company plans to initiate a fresh custom by broadcasting the two NFL games on Christmas Day, having secured exclusive rights back in May – marking one of their boldest steps so far into live sports streaming.
In a continuation of its longstanding practice, Netflix, a streaming giant hailing from Los Gatos, California (and boasting 283 million subscribers), will additionally broadcast the highly anticipated matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs, victors of Super Bowl LVII, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Notably, these games will also be aired on traditional television in both teams’ home cities, as well as accessible via mobile devices equipped with NFL+ streaming service within the United States.
As a devoted football enthusiast and movie reviewer, I’m excited to share that starting from the 2023 season, the much-anticipated Thursday Night Football games will be streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. This marks the second NFL package to make its way onto a streamer, making it easier than ever for fans like myself to catch every thrilling play and nail-biting moment of the game right from the comfort of our homes. So, grab your popcorn, settle into your favorite chair, and get ready to witness football magic on Prime Video!
