Bewitched Child Star Finally Reveals Her Favorite Darrin!

In the 1960s, she appeared on a well-known television show where she played a charmingly youthful witch character. During this period, she was already a popular child actor with an endearing sparkle in her eyes.

The show became enormously popular as fans followed the private lives of the actors closely.

Later on, she delved into diverse positions within the field, taking up roles such as a casting director, makeup artist, wardrobe stylist, drama instructor, and stand-in for action scenes.

Over time, this mother of six returned to the spotlight in television, serving as a host on channels such as Fox Reality Channel and E!, while also hosting various infomercials.

As life moved forward, a mother of six found herself back in show business as a TV presenter for networks like Fox Reality Channel and E!, with the added responsibility of hosting numerous infomercials.

She also worked with Hulk Hogan, Bob Saget, Danny Bondaduce and RuPaul.

Currently, she balances her career as both an actress and voice actor, in addition to jointly running Slim Chillers, a company specializing in frozen alcoholic popsicles.

2019 saw her returning to her witch character in the comedy web series TV Therapy, a show that features fictional characters from well-known TV shows receiving psychological treatment.

Who is she?

She is Bewitched child star Erin Murphy, 60.

Murphy charmed audiences as Tabitha.

Erin was the magical daughter of witch Samantha (Elizabeth Montgomery) and Darrin Stephens.

Besides Diane, Murphy was among the final original cast members from Bewitched who remained alive, as they both played their roles together.

Last year she gave a rare interview.

She’s at last disclosed who her preferred Darrin is – the character of the human father/spouse, portrayed by two distinct actors, that became iconic on the cherished sitcom.

For quite some time now, I’ve found myself in the midst of lively discussions among fellow enthusiasts over who truly embodied the character of Darrin best – the original portrayal by Dick York or the subsequent interpretation by Dick Sargent. Now, it’s my turn to weigh in and hopefully bring some clarity to this long-standing debate.

She confessed to People magazine on Saturday that she’s always been diplomatic throughout her life due to her affection for both parties. They were truly remarkable individuals. To me, Dick York portrays Darrin more convincingly in the series.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’ve always admired how Dick York perfectly embodied the character Darrin on Bewitched from 1964 to 1969, that is, until a severe back issue compelled me to step away from the show in ’69. Later on, it was my colleague, Sargent, who gracefully stepped into the role, carrying it through until the series came to an end in 1972.

Murphy warmly reminisced about her special connection with York, sharing that he assumed a paternal figure for her, not just during filming, but in their everyday interactions as well.

In my own words, I’d say, “Being a father to many, Dick York naturally took on a more paternal role, which I was happy to share with the media.

She remarked, “In essence, he felt more like a father figure to me. Dick Sargent was an outstanding individual, and our friendship continued till his demise. However, when it comes to the original role, I side with Dick York.

Sixty years on, Bewitched continues to captivate.

The show centers on Samantha, a witch who marries a regular man, Darrin Stephens.

Despite swearing to lead an ordinary housewife’s life, her magical abilities frequently stir up chaos and mischief in their seemingly normal daily routine.

Murphy expressed that he found it fascinating since he spent his childhood on the show, making it the only childhood he can remember, yet he feels fortunate about it.

Starting from 1966, the actress joined the series playing the role of Tabitha, Darrin and Samantha’s daughter, and continued to appear on the show until its conclusion in 1972.

In adherence to U.S. child labor regulations that restricted the number of working hours for each child, I was fortunate enough to be teamed up with my twin sister as we both stepped into the role of Tabitha on screen.

However, according to what Murphy shared with Studio 10 in March 2020, it turned out that she and Diane were fraternal twins. Interestingly enough, once they employed them, they noticed that we don’t bear a striking resemblance to each other.

She described how they later displayed her sister, only seen from behind or at a distance, followed by the fact that after the first year, she assumed control.

Murphy described Montgomery, who passed away from cancer in May 1995 at the age of 62, as being similar to a mother to her. She went on to say that they were close outside of the film set and she held a deep affection for her.

Yet, among all her co-stars, Agnes Moorehead stood out as her most cherished one. She portrayed Samantha’s mother Endora and to her, Moorehead was more like a beloved grandmother. With her striking beauty, vibrant personality, and playful demeanor, she found Moorehead captivating and delightful.

‘And her favorite color was purple and everything in her dressing room was purple.’

In the 1970s, during its brief run, a spin-off show named Tabitha premiered, with Lisa Hartman portraying the character as a grown-up.

Following the conclusion of “Bewitched” in 1972, I, Erin Murphy, gracefully retreated from the limelight. However, thanks to the continuous airing of reruns, my presence remained recognizable for many viewers like you.

At the tender age of two, Murphy began playing the character Tabitha, and later, she completed her high school education at El Toro High School, situated in Lake Forest, California, in 1981.
