Bethenny Frankel appeared to be doing well in Miami on Monday, following her recent announcement that she’s been diagnosed with stage two chronic kidney disease.
Okay, let me paint a picture for you! I recently spotted a former Real Housewife of New York City looking absolutely fabulous on the beach. She was rocking a gorgeous, fitted blue top – it had a lovely neckline – paired with crisp white pants and comfy beige sandals. Talk about effortlessly chic! It just proves style is ageless.
The woman, with her dark hair, had a healthy tan and looked radiant with her hair and makeup. She appeared perfectly well, and a summer hat completed her look.
A handsome man with dark hair stood beside her, looking ready for a sunny day in a collared shirt and shorts. He was also carrying a stylish tote bag.
Last year, the actress was seeing Tom Villante. Before that, she was with Paul Bernon for six years, from 2018 to 2024. She also previously dated Dennis Shields and was married to Jason Hoppy, with their divorce finalized in 2012.
The reality TV star has had a difficult year, and on Thursday, she shared news of a health concern with her fans. She revealed in a TikTok video that she hasn’t been feeling well lately.
‘So, I have a medical announcement,’ she began but explained she did not want anyone to ‘worry.’
I decided a while back to be really on top of my health, so I started getting regular blood tests and bone density scans – things I’d heard were important to monitor.
Frankel explained that her blood tests consistently showed low kidney function.
The TV personality revealed they found out they had a doctor’s appointment with a kidney specialist and weren’t interested in going.
The reality star said she forced herself to go to the appointment, and her team also pushed her to attend.
Frankel then stated that the doctor told her she has ‘stage two chronic kidney disease.
He suggested this might be related to a severe allergic reaction I had years ago, where I nearly died. He thinks that incident could have caused kidney damage.
Another possibility is an autoimmune condition, and it seems to be related to urinary issues, as I used to get urinary tract infections frequently, though not as much now.
The celebrity confessed she doesn’t drink much water, but her doctor emphasized how important hydration is, saying, ‘Water is your medicine.’
Frankel explained she needs to avoid medications like ibuprofen, Aleve, and Advil, but she’s still able to take Tylenol.
She told me the doctor had forbidden me from having turmeric, and one other thing I can’t quite recall. It was a little ironic, because she was happily enjoying a bowl of ice cream – something the doctor had given her the okay to eat!
The mother, who has one child, shared with her followers that she also experiences low blood pressure and a condition called POTS, or Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is a condition that can cause symptoms like a racing heart, dizziness, and tiredness when you stand up from lying down.
Frankel told her doctor about all of her health issues, specifically mentioning she was severely dehydrated.
I’m explaining everything to him hoping we can anticipate any problems and get my health back on track. It seems like this might be a long-term issue I’ll need to manage.
She stressed the need for a complete blood test, making sure to check everything thoroughly and follow up on any unusual results.
It’s a good idea to get blood tests done about every six months. This is because your results can change, and sometimes those changes are just temporary, while other times they indicate a real health issue.
In her case it was ‘a pattern’ but shared she is not sure what it means.
Frankel concluded the video by saying she understands many viewers are offering medical advice, and she appreciates their concern, even though she wasn’t sure where she was going with that thought.
Chronic kidney disease, or CKD, happens when your kidneys are gradually harmed and lose their ability to filter waste and regulate blood pressure, according to the National Kidney Foundation.
Last year, in an interview with Women’s Health, Frankel shared some of her strategies for maintaining good health.
She’s been focusing on her health by walking around 10,000 steps each day and prioritizing sleep. She’s also reduced how much alcohol she drinks.
The actor explained that they focus on a balanced diet and have instilled that same approach in their daughter. They admitted they aren’t a nutrition expert and don’t have detailed knowledge about things like seed oils, but they always try to make healthy choices.
