As a seasoned gamer who’s been following Dota 2 for quite some time now, I must say, it’s about time BetBoom got their hands on that trophy! The suspense was killing me as they battled their way through the gauntlet at the BLAST Slam. It feels like they’ve been on a never-ending quest for glory since they entered the MOBA scene in mid-2022.
BetBoom can finally open their trophy cabinet with this historic win in Denmark.
At long last, BetBoom managed to clinch their first tournament victory, securing the initial BLAST Slam Dota 2 championship with a 3-1 triumph over Tundra Esports in an exhilarating grand finale the previous weekend.
As a passionate fan, I can’t help but appreciate the thrilling final format that set the stage for an epic showdown. Two teams emerged victorious from a grueling multi-round tournament, with no other team managing to break through and join them in the semifinals. This left the leaders of the group stages to face off on Championship Sunday, promising a climactic end to this exhilarating competition.
BetBoom finally dust off trophy cabinet with Denmark victory
In the BLAST Slam tournament, the team led by Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko, known as BetBoom, experienced a single loss on their path to winning Group A. This defeat secured their place in the semifinals according to BLAST’s playoff structure. However, spectators were rooting for an underdog run from teams that entered later in the group stage, but it did not materialize.
Parivision triumphed over Heroic and TI champions Liquid, while BetBoom effortlessly swept aside their opponents. In another part of the bracket, Gaimin and Falcons were knocked out, leaving a clear path for BetBoom to seize their inaugural trophy.
In the opening of the final match, BetBoom emerged victorious after a 42-minute game, with MieRo’s exceptional 7-0 score on Magnus. However, Tundra retaliated swiftly through their mid-laner, lorenof, using Puck.
But that’s as close as Tundra would get. BetBoom closed out a tough 56-minute third game to secure championship point, then wrapped up the BLAST Slam Dota win with a quick 24-6 kill score to walk away champs.
It puts to end one of the longest trophy droughts in competitive Dota 2. BetBoom entered the MOBA back in mid-2022, signing the Winstrike roster. While none of those players remain with the squad today, the name has become synonymous in Dota as both a team and a tournament organizer.
The team was assembled in October, following the departure of Egor “Nightfall” Grigorenko to Tundra. New additions included Gleb “kiyotaka” Zyryanov (Aurora) and Vladislav “Kataomi`” Semenov (Cloud9). Almost right away, BetBoom started making waves: The Russian team secured third place at the BetBoom Dacha Belgrade tournament and ended up in second place at DreamLeague Season 24.
BLAST Slam here to stay with events penned for 2025
For BLAST, the tournament organizer, the introduction to Dota was generally straightforward, and they’ve already made a commitment to continue their involvement with the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) up until 2025.
The initial spectacle encountered some challenges, such as a unique HUD design that required fans to adapt, and an unexpected technical glitch during the event which necessitated a rematch, causing the group stage to extend late into the evening.

Despite a hitch-free playoff, only about 200,000 spectators watched the finals as per EsportsCharts. On average, the event attracted 97,003 viewers across the group stages and playoffs.
Previously recognized for organizing Counter-Strike competitions, BLAST has already scheduled the upcoming Slam tournament for February 2025. This event is part of the four Slams planned for 2025 and eight in total over the next two years, each offering a prize pool of one million dollars.
It’s anticipated that the BLAST tournament for Dota 2 will take place in Singapore the following year; however, specific venue details are still undisclosed. Previously, the organizers have hosted events not only in Singapore but also in parts of western Europe and North America.
